In the heart of Chinatown, in an inconspicuous place is this gem. It was bustling with locals and we were glad we came early to get a seat. The service was quick and the food came out in short order and piping hot. The spicy jellyfish was a treat and the beef with pan-fried noodles was awesome. Had the frog... More

A little bit hard to find, but you have to go up the stairs, because the food is so worth it. We were a party of 8 and were seated quickly and the service was wonderful! We ordered the Menu B for 5 and a few other entrees and wound up having WAAAAY too much food for us. It was... More

Amazing food for a great price. It was an authentic experience in Chinatown. I highly recommend doing the Deluxe Dinner. We did the B Option and there was more than enough food.

If very hidden from public eye, if you don't look for it, you won't know it is there. Go up the stairs and enter. Is very basic and minimal inside, but the food is fantastic!!! Portions are massive and affordable. Staff is very lovely! I will definitely come back when I'm back in San Francisco.

I had a serious hankering for Honey Walnut Shrimp. Not like an 'oh, that sounds good' kind of way, but a 'I need this in my life right now or else' kind of way. People in Chinatown are constantly sticking menus and coupons in your face, so it's an overwhelming decision making process when it comes to finding a place... More

After very good reviews I went there with 6 friends from work. The place was busy at the time so the were seating us with another big group. Reservation wasn't possible. No problems at all for us but later they mixed up all the orders. We often had to ask several times to get our order served. Some of the... More

We went there on a cold and wet winter evening. The place was not too difficult to find, thanks to the tips of other TripAdvisor members. We were given Chinese tea and the menu as soon as we sat down. But, soon after, the waitress informed us the kitchen is closing soon (9 PM) so we need to place our... More

This is not a fancy restaurant but it is clean, has very friendly staff and outstanding food. The hot and sour soup was the best I've had for a very long time.

We were looking for a light lunch spot and Clay Pot was highly recommended. It is a good, plain, family-style Chinatown restaurant with very clean surroundings, approachable staff and very good food. Just so you know, each of the soups feeds two (which we did not expect, given the reasonable prices) and that was not made clear to us. So... More

Wanted a genuine Chinese place for dinner and found this place on trip advisor. Took a Uber there and when we climbed out of the car there was an elderly Chinese man standing at the bottom of a narrow staircase . He asked me something in Chinese , and pointed up the stairs! My husband asked if it was good... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
