We popped in to Tacolicious on a recommendation from a local. It's in a lovely area with restaurants and bars all within an easy walk. We ordered their guacamole to share, which was amazing. Then a selection of tacos.. I ordered 3 in total. I opted for the pork, chorizo and potato and cactus and cheese. The two meat tacos... More

Returned after our initial visit to San Francisco and this place is still just as good as the first time we went! They have some of the best guacamole and tacos we've ever had anywhere. The tacos have a lot of filling, so three is plenty for a normal person. Very reasonable prices and great service. We were there on... More

Their 3pm - 6pm Happy Hour on weekdays is a great excuse to try their awesome Margaritas, salty and sweet. The food is fresh and tasty, standard taco fare really. Overall a relaxed, cool vibe.

We visited Tacolicious after our Uber driver had recommended it to us. Battling jet lag, we were happy to have our order taken quickly and our food served in a reasonable time too. Decent selection of beers and the cocktails looked nice too. Shame we were too beaten to enjoy them! My advice would be to take advantage of the... More

This was our first stop in San Francisco. The food was fast and delicious. Great menu selection for our family (which includes 2 picky tweens). The margaritas are pretty incredible as well!

In our group of 4 we had 5 different choices of tacos! From steak, chicken, fish, brisket, pork and they were all delicious! It's very cute and we chose to eat outside. The bathrooms were really clean and nice!

I just left there ten minutes ago. I was by myself and the woman working there apparently couldn't be bothered to wait on one person. She was insulting when I walked in and never came back. So I walked one block to a hole in the wall and it's delicious!

Loved this place -- great margarita, even better tacos. The veggie one with butternut squash was awesome, and my sister loved hers made with brisket. AAnd the brussels sprouts -- just do yourself a favor, and order them even if you don't like brussels sprouts. They were amazing! No, seriously -- you can't miss them. Friendly service during the quiet... More

We just wanted drinks and it took 25 mins from walking in to receive them. The guy taking the plates etc couldn't manage even a fake smile. Why would I want to tip a person with a miserable attitude AND miserable service? The Cocktails are good. Nice decor.

We were told to check this place out. We are from MN and loved their food. The guacamole and the refried beans were my favorite! I would definitely stop back here if we ever visited the big city again.

Tacolicious is by no means a traditional taqueria-you won't find burritos here. What started out in the summer of 2009 as a little taco stand at the Thursday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market with a fittingly frivolous name, has become a sit-down, cocktail-driven restaurant, 120 tequilas strong. Tacos anchor a menu that extends to dishes such as beet salad with grapefruit and pumpkin seeds, tuna tostadas, grilled squid served Veracruz-style, albondigas, shrimp a la diabla, and toasted coconut flan.

Like many native Californians, Mexican food is in us. Though we grew up traveling to Mexico regularly (and still do), it took a trip to Mexico City-where the food is served in settings as sophisticated and urban as you'll find anywhere in the world-for us to realize that tacos don't have to be relegated to street food or a corner mom-'n'-pop.

We're proud to be based in San Francisco, a town where the words local, sustainable and organic have become so redundant that they make you want to yawn. But just in case you were wondering about our menu: The answer is almost always, "Yes, yes and yes."

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
