We were excited about getting some Sichuan food in Chinatown since we don't have places at home from that province. So wow - the chicken with explosive chilis - delicious and a beautiful presentation, the tan tan noodles, beef with flaming chili oil all with just the right amount of spice to enhance the delicious flavors. They don't take reservations... More

Unbelievable find. Great spicy authentic Chinese food. While the food is hot, it is also extremely flavorful. The complexity of flavors will impress. The staff was very friendly and fast. Reasonable prices.

So many of the restaurants in Chinatown claim to be 'the one Obama went to' and it's so difficult to chose! This is a good choice. I wasn't expecting too much to be honest as it does feel like a tourist trap - there are often long waits for tables. It's worth the wait. The food is full of flavour,... More

Knowing absolutely nothing about Szechuan cuisine we stopped at this place in the heart of Chinatown one day for lunch. Our only reference was the Michelin guide, so when we got there I was pretty surprised about the look. Keep your expectations low regarding the decoration; this is not why people seems to come here. It seems to be very... More

Like most reviewers we went into Chinatown to have some dinner but not sure where to eat. We asked a few shopkeepers and this was recommended as the place President Obama ate. This is a great place and is worth waiting in line for - can be 30 mins line - but they list you to ensure no queue jumping.... More

We didn't know where to eat in Chinatown. Just too many to choose from. After taking a peek at the restaurant's menu, my friends and I decided to eat there. It was packed and we were lucky to grab the last available table. It was not even 6 pm. A good 10 minutes after we were seated, there was a... More

This restaurant is in the heart of Chinatown, and though the looks of it are not impressive at all, the food is amazing. They do not take reservations for less than 5, so show up in time, announce your party at the host, and they'll let you know when to come back. I usually grab a beer across the street,... More

Very very good food! I had several dishes (fish, spicy chicken, tofu and rolled beef pancakes): ALL of them were excellent! I could have it all again and again!

Chinatown
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
