Every time I visit San Francisco, I make it a mission to have breakfast at Mama's. Yes, I know the wait is torturous, but it is worth it. Their dungeness crab eggs Benedict is my favorite dish and I'm always awaiting the next time I can return and have it again. I will say that their prices have increased significantly.... More

We waited for about an hour in the rain and we thought it was well worth the wait. We had the Washington and Northern Omelettes. We debated getting the pancakes but we were simply too full. It's small inside but they don't rush you once you are inside and let you enjoy the oversized delicious omelettes. Highly recommend.

Very busy place, and always queues to get in. I wasn't that impressed last visit, but I must admit this time it was fantastic. I had banana bread French toast with seasonal berries, and it was excellent. The pancakes my daughter had were great too. Worth the queue? Possibly!

A colleague recommended we go to this restaurant for breakfast while visiting the area. While I was not thrilled with standing outside waiting for a table inside, after we were seated and our food arrived I was glad we did! The food is excellent and well worth the wait! I recommend anyone who is visiting San Francisco to dine here.

Queued a long way around the block but was well worth the wait. the only downside, and this is not a criticism of the restaurant, is that it is very popular and therefore be prepared to wait. But we were very pleased that we did

What a great experience. If you are only in SanFransico for a day this is the place to have breakfast or lunch! We visited Mama's twice and on both occasions the food was brilliant alongside the excellent service. Check out the menu before you go because you have to order first before you sit at your table. It's only small,so... More

Like many other reviewers we found out about this place on Trip Advisor and looked forward to our visit. Spent almost 1.5 hours in line waiting to get into the place. The food was well prepared, fresh and served in generous portions. You will not be disappointed by anything on the menu. So a few tips - pick your time... More

Our tour guide pointed out this place for the following day we decided to check it out for breakfast (arrived around 8:30). I read the reviews from my phone while waiting in line and got more and more excited as we waited just based off of all the rave reviews. We waited 90 minutes before reaching the front of the... Established in 1951.
The family of Mama and Papa Sanchez, serves up traditional and innovative breakfast dishes in "Little Italy", the famous North Beach District in San Francisco. Across the street from the beautiful Washington Square Park, Mama's legions of fans line up early and throughout the day. We use the freshest of local products, imported Italian meats to fill our fluffy omelettes, homemade jam, fresh baked breads, pastries and other delectable dishes. We invite you to try our little restaurant and become part of the Mama's Family.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
