We were one of the four tables dining, all of the guests were clearly near to our ages. We are decidedly in the senior group. The music was vintage 40's, 50's, the decor was classic elegant dining, from the 50's. Table cloth linen, heavy silver, real china with service plates, escargot tongs and forks, a wonderful throwback to the days... More

I didn't know this restaurant is so good and so convenient! Too bad this restaurant will be out of business soon according to the notice on the wall. The food including the soup, the bread and dessert tastes great! The main course I ordered is fish. The presentation is great. The fish is fresh, but it is a little fishy.... More

We have eaten here several times and really want to like L'Oivier. The problem seems to be it is a French restaurant the has lost much of its French atmosphere. It still has escargot and French onion soup on the menu, but the servers are obviously not French-speakers and most of the dishes, although well-prepared, are the same as could... More

I would like to take some time to give this fine establishment the highest marks. We made reservations here for my wife's birthday. We all loved it. The meals tasted home made, everything was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, and the service excellent. There is live music for all tastes, as well as a dance floor... More

Went here for a small company dinner. We ordered drinks and to our surprise we observed that they were mixed by various members of the wait staff. They weren't very good. On the other hand, our food was quite good. My husband's steak was perfect. I had the scallops risotto and it was wonderful. If you want to eat here,... More

We came here for Thanksgiving dinner, service was very very very slow, it was obvious that they didn't have enough employees, it was so crazy. Very upset about tonight.

I do not think this little Gem gets enough attention. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is amazing and the Staff is exceptional. It is easy to get to and never disappoints. I frequently order the escargot to start, but the salads are also great. The lamb chops and steaks are wonderful and the creme brulee is some of the... More

I have been to L'Olivier numerous times. Always before a production at the Eureka Theater don the street. I have never been disappointed. Superb service, a complimentary wine for theater guests and a varied French menu. Try the Chef's choice for $33.00. A true value. 3 choices in each category. I had a lovely smoked salmon on potato pancake, a... More

One of the worst lunch experiences in SF I've ever had. We were the only people in there, apart from the 25 waiters. The waiter barely spoke english, think he was russian. the decor in there is so outdated and actually smells pretty funky. ordered a garden / mixed salad to start with, literally came out with just moldy lettuce.... Not bad for the inexpensive price but the food is just ok and the ambiance is barely ok. It is not a bad place but in a city known for special restaurants and food, l'Olivier comes up very short.

Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
