The Pied Piper is a part of the Palace Hotel and the room are beautiful, but there is not a real bar atmosphere it feels more like a hotel, the staff is uninterested and in no way professional and the food is not something you will come back for no matter whether you try what they call the best burger... This is a lively bar serving excellent cocktails in a classic environment; nice food assortments but rather average mains.

What a wonderful place to relax and have a drink or an appetizer. Beautiful wood setting and painting of the Pied Piper. Old glass ceiling and great ambiance.

We ate here one evening and just had a drink on another occasion. Comfortable, but the ambiance is completely spoiled by having two large TV screens imposing everywhere. Felt more like a diner than an up-market bar. Also the food we were served was very disappointing. Pleasant staff.

We stay at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, almost every month, and have enjoyed the Pied Piper & Maxfield’s on many visits. This one, in March, was a bit different, due to a change in their menu. Some of the changes were subtle, but some, not so much. First, the venue is a combination of a bar, with seating,... More

We were too tired to trek back out so we ate in. Food was good, but limited and pricey... Great place for a drink upon return, we sent the kids to the room and we had a night cap!

The food was not great, but the drinks were fine. It is very, very loud so be prepared not to hear your mates.

The painting almost went away but the public rallied and it stayed. This is classic upscale SF, come here and feel a part of the history of this room and soak it in, along with some wonderful concoction made just for you by these able and clever barmen.

This is a fun place to go for drinks and watch the game. The burgers and fries are good, but that is it. Do not try the carrot soup, burrata, Caesar Salad, or anything else Our service was good and the server was friendly

We came here for lunch and drinks. Not too much selection on the lunch menu, but the truffle fries and accompanying condiments were amazing! We also had a burger and the Asian inspired fried fish band those were great as well. Chef Marck came out and had us try a savory watermelon salad that was so delicious, great pairing of... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
