Exceptionally good dim sum! The service is not the most friendliest - (or happiest) but the dim sum more than makes up for it! We were a group of four who ordered 4 different dim sums, 3 mains and 2 beers - all for $20 each! Cheap and cheerful but without a compromise on the taste! Would definitely recommend a... More

Not too expense for being SF. Very tasty food and helpful staff. Scullion pancakes were probably the our table favourite. Simple but super tasty.

Hang Ah Tea Room opened in 1920, the first Dim Sum restaurant in America. Great food, they have everything you could want piping hot and delicious. They are located in an alley in China Town. Hard to find but worth the search.

Our food was completely mediocre, which was better than the service. The food took a very long time and nothing was exceptional. The green beans and chicken fried rice were particularly salty.

My adult daughter had never had dim sum and we came across this local alleyway gem. It's in an obscure location in Chinatown but had lots of old world laid back charm. We ordered various dim sum to try along with a pot of jasmine green tea. All was fresh and service was prompt. Our server was most helpful in... More

I don't know if those as really the first dim sum restaurant, but you can keep it. They didn't have some basic staples of dim sum, and I wouldn't be surprised if the dim sum was mass made frozen from an oriental market. I didn't think one could get anything but perfect dim sum- I was wrong. If you miss... More

We walked through San Francisco all day and ended up here - well worth it. The restaurant was perfect for us and our 2 kids (9,11)- good selection of delicious, authentic food, excellent service, relaxed ambiance. A great choice and we would certainly go back.

I have been living in San Francisco for about a year now and this is the place I insist on taking people. It is not the kind of Dim Sum that happens in a big flashy room with carts. It is well priced, authentic and down to earth. I suggest the BBQ Pork Bun with a healthy helping of their... More

During a recent conference in San Francisco, my travel companion and I went to dim sum at the Hang Ah Tea Room. Since she is Chinese, I let her pick where we would eat. This place did not disappoint either of us! We enjoyed the dumplings, sesame balls, sticky rice, and Chinese broccoli dishes. The staff was very helpful when... More

A friend strongly recommended this out of the way little Dim Sum house. She has been going there since she was a little girl - over 50 years ago. We managed to navigate the streets and wandered in to Hang Ah. With its authentic decor and varied menu this little place is really worth a visit! After studying the menu... More
