Busy, but not to the detriment of the atmosphere. Staff coping very well, polite and efficient service. I had the halibut, and would recommend this. The chef has been able to incorporate quite a mix of various flavours in this dish, which work together well but still remain distinct within the dish without merging with eachother.

I've been to Salt House a few times and have had good but not memorable meals. The atmosphere is busy and hip without being overly pretentious. Prices are San Francisco prices (expensive) but not overly so. A good option for an informal work meeting or friends getting together on a weeknight.

We enjoyed our lunch here. Staff was polite when one of our party was late. Service was good. The food was excellent---I had the autumn salad, husband had hamburger and my cousin had soup, cheese sandwich and soup. We all enjoyed our meal. Appetizer was blue cheese and apples---very small amount. Place is noisy. We would eat here again.

Went here with friends and colleagues. Mixed experience. Took a while to set up our table and waiter was somewhat slow. Drinks/cocktails were good, but also took a while to get. Food was average and expensive. Peppers and poutine were good as well as bread and butter. Popcorn was ok. I thought the entrees and salad we had were nothing... More

This sleek restaurant has a menu, and service that is outstanding. I had trouble selecting but wound up with the Roasted Vegetable Soup-apples, brown butter and micro greens = delicious and portion was perfect. i followed up with the seasonal greens salad and it also was outstanding with apple, sweet potatoes, little onion crisp and a light dressing. The service... More

This place stays true to it's name - SALT house. Every dish I had (and my party ordered a third of the menu) was so salty that the Dead Sea would taste like Spring Water. Not to mention the portion size for the price tag. And don't get me started on the wait. Highly do not recommend. Especially do not... More

Reconnected with cousins after many years. Enjoyed the smoked duck salad and service was friendly. Irked that a second cup of coffee required another charge. I would not have ordered it had I known. Very tacky. That would never fly in New York.

Nice food, with a touch of European cuisine, nice ambience, polite staff. It took them a while to get our order but we were quite happy to discover the food was worth it. I found that the only thing that was missing was that the music should have been a bit louder, it was barely audible and this took something... More

Had a snack and a couple cocktails and a wine at the bar area last week. The Manhattan's were well made and the Seghesio for $12 was great. We had some "hot" nuts that were very hot yet tasty, oysters (delish) and some cheese. Excellent :)

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
