Like many restaurants in the area, this place has a long, narrow, fairly cramped dining room, with subdued lighting. Not at all crowded when we visited, around 8:30 on a Friday night. Started with samosas and pappadum, then to Lamb Biryani, plus naan. The appetizers and naan were fine, but the biryani, with the generous lamb chunks, fragrant rice, and topped... More

What a great little find this was, Visiting the Bay Area from Australia and looking for a place to eat dinner we stumbled upon this gem in Chestnut st right near where we are staying. Upon entry we were greeted warmly by the Owner and her Daughter and they were lovely. The food, AMAZING!!!!!! The Currys that we had were... More

Food is good, but service is delayed. Order has come very late. Also many times the restaurant was closed in a week. So be call first to go there. Also sitting space is very small. But you will like the food, it really taste like Indian.

We were in the mood for Indian food, and we found this place within walking distance of our hotel. It is small but as we walked in the smell of curry was delightful. We had a great meal at a reasonable price.

The owner and her daughter were charming. We were early and there were only a few people in the restaurant. But it did take 60 minutes from ordering to getting our food. Now great that everything is fresh, but the kitchen has to be quicker! That said our Dal, Naan, Lamb Vindaloo, and Matar Gobi (cauliflower and potato) were generous,... More

This is a great place to try Indian food in San Francisco. The place is slightly on the higher side, but still a must visit. I personally liked the rice items and it's just awesome.

We had a dinner at this place with family and the chef was kind enough to provide us with dishes that were not part of the menu. We really liked the Biryani at this place. However, all of it was very expensive which was a bit of let down.

We had a hankering for Chicken Tikka Masala, and found Ashoka nearby. VERY good food, including the best Dal Makhni I've ever had, anywhere. The naan was also exquisitely fresh and tasty. As others have noted, the set-up here is unconventional to say the least. The restaurant is a long narrow space with very high ceilings. It is attractive but... More

We eat here every time we visit SF, 4-5 per year. This is the third time the chef/owner has not shown up. Twice the place was closed with no explanation. Yesterday we were told she was doing her laundry. It is no wonder that this place typically has one to three tables filled. Very disappointing because when they are there,... More

Went for a bite to eat on Thanksgiving. My partner and I are from Birmingham UK, balti capital of the world so we like to try the local Indian restaurants whenever we go to other countries. We ordered poppadoms to start, which were pretty good. The problem happened when the mains arrived. My partner had ordered a naan, to accompany... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
