I now have dinner here a few times per month. There are tried and true dishes, with a few pretty normal, but there are spectacular dishes added special every week and these are where the chef truly shines. Fresh catch, fresh game, seasonal herbs and vegetables -- including white truffle in season! Once in a while the chef will offer... More

One of the benefits about visiting the restaurant in the middle of the afternoon is that there are generally very few people there and you get particularly good service. This is a very nice restaurant in McLean. We chose to come at 2:15 in the afternoon on Saturday. There was one table taken and when we left there was another... More

We had a celebratory meal for milestone birthday. The group of 6 was uniformly disappointed with the food. It ranged from the mediocre to the terrible. The wine selections were fine. Overall it was a mediocre experience and overpriced.

We took my 94-year-old 2nd-generation Italian mother-in-law for a birthday late lunch (2 PM). We were a little concerned when we found ourselves the only people there, but perhaps that was because the Redskins were playing. The concern was ill-placed, however, as the meal was excellent. Asaagi offers a lunch special of an entree and salad or soup. The salad... More

I go to Assaggi Osteria at least once a week. The atmosphere relaxing, the service is perfect and everyone is very knowledgeable. I have met the Chef many times and I can tell he genuinely cares about the quality of his food and make no mistake, the food is delicious. I always notice people who are eating dinner or lunch... As soon as you step inside a warm welcome is given to you by the host/manager Franchesco, hope I spelt it right. Found our reservation and seated us immediately. Service, food, ambiance and drinks were top notch. It was a great experience overall. Definitely would return.

We arrived a few minutes after our reserved time and even though the restaurant was crowded were seated immediately. Service was excellent, drinks were made very well, and the pour was good. Gazpacho was the best, although the grilled octopus was a bit softer than expected. The soft shell crabs were absolutely great. One special, rack of veal, was too... More

Was a regular patron. Food and service are always good, lunch specials are a good deal. I have not been to this restaurant since January when they did not honor a valid coupon. Although I like the food, I only patronize businesses that I find to be ethical.

There are at least four decent (!) Italian restaurants in nearby McLean -- you might call downtown McLean the little Itsly of NOVA. We go to Assaggio for special occasions, liunch and dinner. Pricey - a bit. Good service - always. Great food - excellent selection. This restaurant offers classic and rich Italian selections - a spaghetti and meatballs place... More

Domenico Cornacchia, chef/proprietor of Assaggi Osteria, taps into ages of ancestral Italian cooking each time he steps into his kitchen and brings a rich love of the cuisine that he so skillfully nurtured through the years. “Assaggi means tastings in Italian,” explains Domenico, “The concept of my menu is based on a variety of items that may be ordered in smaller portions.” Before deciding to pursue his dream of operating his own restaurant, Domenico was corporate executive chef and partner at Café Milano, for more than 15 years. His culinary umbrella also covered Café Milano’s two sister restaurants, Sette Bello in Clarendon, VA., and Sette Osteria in Dupont Circle.  For those who love Italian cuisine, Assaggi Osteria features homemade pasta’s, fresh seafood, veal and scrumptious beef. Assaggi Osteria sources whole fresh fish from worldwide sustainable sources, offering the finest bounty the sea has to offer. Produce is purchased from Amish farms and all desserts are homemade.
