Based on the food this is a 4-star establishment. Everything is quite good, but not quite 5-star level. The smoked salmon & eggs is very good, the pancakes are well above average, then eggs benedict is very good, and the brunch cocktails are very good, too. South End Buttery loses a star (and it probably should be more like losing... More

The French toast with berries is a must try! Their eggs and omelets are delicious as well. Their fresh squeezed orange juice, muffin/bread basket and general atmosphere draw me back. Small place, long wait even with a reservation sometimes there is a wait, atmosphere is what I would call 'cozy' and parking is a challenge, but the French toast is... More

This restaurant has two floors and a small bakery area. We had brunch on a weekend and had reservations. The service was good. One diner has diet restrictions and the waitress was helpful. The food was good, fresh and the menu has variety. The prices for menu items are overpriced and the sides are generous but also overpriced. Try the... More

The waitress was very rude and not willing to answer our questions. I ordered a burger and added an egg, only to find out that they charge $5 to add an egg. I can get 24 eggs from whole foods at that price, so I am guessing it is a very special egg...

First, you don't want to sit downstairs, it smells moldy and is realy damp. The calamari is amazing, very unique with the candied ginger, water cress and aioli. The lobster mac and cheese is very disappointing, more like alfredo, bolognese is also very disappointing. Mushroom ravioli and buccatini were good. I would recommend this for drinks and apps.

I managed to make a six person reservation for brunch on Sunday for the wrong date. Somehow the lovely woman at the host stand (Margie I believe) was able to magically squeeze us in! Every one of us had an amazing meal, and their gimlet was perfectly made. This was the first time we had ever gone for a sit... More

We went for dinner. Ask for downstairs, seating, it much more cozy and romantic near the fireplace. We tired the fried calamari, the rangoons for appetizers. The half chicken , the bacon burger, the hanger steak, and the blondness. All were very good, The bolognese, was a bit too creamy for my taste, but i finished it anyway. The drinks... More

This was right by our hotel, so we had a nice quick breakfast here everyday and enjoyed being part of the local scene!

This little gem is on our favorite must visit stops every time we are in Boston! Great breakfast goodies and coffee. Tried their Saturday morning brunch this time. The pancakes are out of this world. Great neighborhood vibe!

One of the Boston scenes that Michalopous painted was this classic corner restaurant which has evolved into The South End Buttery. It's been a neighborhood staple for decades under different names and management, but the current owner lives nearby and seems to be here for the long run. Many locals start their day with one of the best cups of... More

Staying in South End

Neighbourhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
