Look past the armies of tourists equipped with Mike's pastry boxes in a widespread propaganda coup. Maria's is the real deal and definitely has the best pastries in the city. Everytime I visited a local would be buying theirs and there was a local buzz to the store. The staff were super friendly and helpful in explaining all the different... More

Go there early in the morning for the breakfast pastry. Heavenly. This is like being in Italy. It is simple pastries and confections properly done. And you can choose between made on site pastries or from other sources. The canoli's are the best in the world. Made fresh and stuffed to order.

A local tour guide for North End introduced me to this pastry shop, and initially I didn't believe her based on the shop front. After having my first, freshly made and freshly filled to order Canolli from Maria's Pastry, I am never having another Canolli from any other place in Boston. Best ever!!

Our tour guide luckily recommended this place to us due to the owner's long history of caring for others in the community. While some of the more well known shops had long lines, we were able to walk right in, and the service immediate. The homemade cannoli was incredible! We highly recommend Maria's!

Went here for some pastries and cappuccino heading out of Boston. The place is a little off the main strip where all the other Italian places are, but well worth it. Maria is adorable and friendly, and made me an awesome cappuccino and cannoli, totally hit the spot. You walk in and the smells just lift your spirit. I've had... More

We passed by several other Italian bakeries on the way to Maria's. They were bustling and busy, so when we got to Maria's -- which is on a busy commercial street with little foot traffic -- and saw its plain and modest exterior (with only a few other people inside) we were worried. But we'd read good things about it,... More

Best cannoli I've ever had! Authentic Italian pastries and delicious chocolate chip cookies for the traditional American. The staff was delightful!

Head over to Mike's for a room temperature, sitting on the shelf for a while pre-made Cannoli. Seriously, get a Mike's cannoli, eat it on your way to Maria's then get another. Who doesn't want two cannolis? Tell me then who is better. If you really want to put a taste test on, skip Mike's and compare Bova's to Maria's.... More

I left out the "cream" on purpose because they forgot ours! We had high expectations as we have heard about this bakery and got a slice of Boston cream pie. It was 2 pieces of cake completely missing ANY cream. There was another couple next to us and they had the same thing. I may be from Chicago but I'm... More

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
