For decades, Jamie Tipping absolutely has The Secret: Prepare great food, provide excellent service, and charge reasonable prices. It would be a neighborhood restaurant except people come here from all over. The fish is fresh every morning and delicious. Elise, our server today, was welcoming, gracious, and attentive. There are small portions available for those with small appetites - and/or... More

The Sail Loft did not disappoint! We had family in from out of state who wanted local seafood. The lobster roll was amazing. Not a lot of mayo. Amazing amount of meat! Perfectly toasted roll. Lobster mac and cheese was incredible. Tons of lobster. Homemade mac and cheese just like mom makes. The fish and chips were BIG chunks of... More

We usually head to the Sail Loft the first night of our stays in Boston. This night, it was just "off". We felt VERY rushed by the waitress-like they wanted to turn tables quickly. But, there were plenty of empty tables available. The food was okay, but not great this time. Swordfish tips were topped with lemon and pepper, the... More

Visited the Sail Loft twice in a recent trip to Boston. First (and perhaps most important for an out of town visitor), the chowder is phenomenal. Probably the best I've ever had. The lobster roll was great as well, and I'm not the world's biggest lobster roll fan. There is also a very welcoming environment here. I didn't feel like... More

Great place to stop in for some fresh fish. For the price you expect something fancier, and while the food was terrific, the place was a bit of a dive. It smells really fishy inside, which I guess is to be expected. The server had no idea about the wines, but he looked like he was 16 so I don't... More

My daughters ordered the Broiled Fresh Scrod without the Ritz cracker topping and they said it was the best scrod they ever ate. The only tips I would suggest is: clean the table/chairs/floor under the table better before you seat the next guest. There was a small pile of food on the floor under the table. But it was great... Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food! I visited this place on a snowy day; the view was awesome. I didn't want to live! I will definitely visit again!

The location is amazing and it's right on the water. The clam chowder as others have said is awesome and worth getting for sure. My wife had the scallops and I ate the fish and chips. We also had the calamari for an appetizer. I said has potential because the food was cooked right. But it all was absent seasoning.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
