We have driven past this incredible Castle many times and knew that one day, we would plunk down some big money to eat at its Smith and Wollensky. The appetizers were pretty good: Tuna tartar, Oysters on the half shell, Burrata wth ham, and Clams Casino were a nice start to the dinner. Unfortunately, the very expensive entrees were of... More

We have been to several and can't pick our favorite. Dinner was quiet, service superb and food phenomenal, as always. We started with a wedge salad, (of course) the split pea soup and split the T-bone with the green beans and baked potato to accompany. If you have been before then you do know the menu is predictable, but I... More

We came for dinner because of the name. Coming from Texas, we know about our beef - more specifically, steaks and we love our steaks. We ordered their evening special, the T-bone. Although the presentation, heat and flavor were to order, we were extremely disappointed when we took cut into the steak and then the first bite. The steak itself... More

Couple of us went for dinner. Spoiler alert. This is a steak house. Started in NYC and one of the supposed best in country. Ordered the $110 ribeye for 2 Med rare. Came out med well. Mentioned to waitress who said "I just place the order. I don't cook it". Manager then came over and said yes that is not... More

We came in January and bought gift cards that were supposedly good later. Came to use them for valentines and come to find out our waitress lied and our cards were only good one per visit. Lame. Food not worth ever coming back. Beware the false front.

I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your experience. To clarify however, our gift cards can be used at any time and in multiples. However the cards that you are referring to are not gift cards. They were part of a promotion and therefore had limitations with regards to usage. The information pertaining to usage of these cards... More

The building, the ambience, the display of heritage was awe inspiring. Kudos to the way they have preserved the history. In one of the PDR's the server gave us a complete history lesson. The food complemented it well. The portions were humongous, especially the desserts. Two of us shared one steak and four of us one dessert.

In addition to the fine steak offerings, S&W also has Buck-a-Shuck oysters (we went on a Sunday; don't know when else it is offered -you should call). This is from 5:00-7:00, and is well worth doing. The oysters were fabulous. Very creamy. Among the best I've ever had. (Order a Sauvignon Blanc, which, explicablly,is not on the wine list.) The... More

On our annual girls shopping trip to the US, and it's become a tradition to treat ourselves to some really great steak. Based on past experience we knew we wouldn't have the stamina for starters as well as a main course, so went straight for it. Fillets wrapped in bacon were melt-in-the-mouth tender but still had real flavour. Lamb chops... More

S&W is a very good steak house - no doubt about it. Pricey but dependable and good. The building, on the other hand is totally awesome. It is a castle, take a tour to the second and third floor, you can walk off dinner before you indulge in dessert.

Staying in Back Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
