The burger here scores 6/7 on my personal burger scale. This is a relatively rare score. Only three burgers have ever scored 7/7. The burger was properly cooked (medium-rare as requested), well seasoned, and juicy. It was served on a great brioche bun, with well-balanced toppings and condiments. The fries were excellent as well.

Hi Dave, Thank you so much for the review. We're very happy to see that you enjoyed one of Chef Brad's burgers. We also feel the broche bun, mustard aioli, and pickles all house made really do compliment the burger well. The restaurant is closed for a refresh the next 8 weeks but if you would like to enjoy a... More

Menu is very limited and pricey for what it is. Add some granola/yogurt would help at breakfast, but service is great.

First I'd like thank you for giving Saltbox a try. We realize there are many dining options downtown to choose from. Secondly, we appreciate the feedback. The Saltbox F&B team values and reviews all of the information we get from our guests. The granola and yogurt options will be added to the Saltbox menu. Again thank you for choosing Saltbox,... The Salt Box is a great launching and night cap spot but keep in mind that it closes fairly early for a hotel bar...10pm is barely night cap material but after a long day and evening hitting the Gas Lamp District it works out well. You can enter right off the street so non-lodgers should keep it in mind. The... More

Full disclosure- I am biased because I stay at the Palomar but, I have food choices, too. Saltbox is fantastic will a varied menu that can fill you with appetizers, to snacks, to the full-on steak with all the trimmings. Always get the roasted caesar. The steak here is wonderfully done, and pork chop has never disappointed.

It's so great to see that you are a Palomar guest and chose Saltbox for dinner. So many guests stay with us only to venture out into the Gaslamp without giving us a try. While I understand the reasoning, with so many fantastic dining options downtown, it always pleases us when we get the opportunity to serve our in-house guests.... More

The menu is limited and what I ended up with was yet another life shortening American meal. though it was tasty my system was not very happy the next morning. Friendly staff and very uncomfortable chairs. There are much better choices up the street or around the corner.

Prior to SD Symphony, we chose to visit Saltbox Restaurant for the first time. The doorways to both the Palomar Hotel and its restaurant, Saltbox, are huge heavy brass and glass doors that could easily be on bank vaults and require assistance from staff to move for entering and leaving. The restaurant interior keeps an almost medieval motif of a... More

Started off with the bacon and brussels flatbread split between two, followed by pot roast and steak. Honestly one of the best meals of the holiday. Served by Noel- top notch service and funny too. Happy hour added to the overall enjoyment of the night. Exceptional!

no reso needed on a thursday night... one of only four parties, so thought the service would be better. nice enough hostess and server, but not much to speak about food wise. turkey burger was ok, but starter salad and brussel sprouts all came out of the kitchen at the same time. mentioned to the server, who resolved the bill,... Hi Daisy, It appears we didn't perform up to the standard we expect of ourselves. The team here at Saltbox is disappointed to see this. We realize there are many options for dining downtown and definitely expect better execution. I assure you the team will review the comments you provided so that we might correct the issues in coursing and... More
