We hadn't been to El Agave in years - we returned this past weekend and had an amazing meal. It's the kind of menu that leaves you confused because you want to order everything -- hard to make up your mind! The ceviche was delicious. Highly recommend any and all of the moles, but particularly the Mole Poblano Don Julio.... More

Very superb. The atmosphere is cozy and gives you the "old town"-feeling. The stuffed calamares as appetizer are amazing. Their food it great and nearly no cilantro! Great taste.

If Mole and Tequila are favorites then you'll love this place. The walls are lined with Tequilas and there are a variety of moles as well as a variety of different dishes prepared with each mole. I am not usually a big fan of mole but the duck with mole was excellent. Guacamole and margaritas were great too as was... More

When my husband was a teenager, he lived in Mexico City so while visiting San Diego he wanted an authentic Mexican dinner, not the usual Tex-Mex. We found what he was looking for at El Agave. Some what small and cozy with about 2 thousand tequila bottles in glass cases throughout the restaurant. We had the house Margarita which is... More

This is a very Authentic Mexican food place. The place is very nice inside. Clean, and you feel like you are 5 star dining. For us Texas Tex Mex people the food was a bit too authentic for us but if open to a true Mexican meal in sure it would be wonderful. The Specislty is Moles. Drinks and service... More

Great Mexican food. Try the 'Trilogia de Moles' to get a great perspective on moles. There is a green, red and traditional mole. They all have a nice level of heat to complement the flavor of the mole. The service was great and helped us through the menu.

I only had drinks in the bar but the couple next to us had a dinner and it looked fantastic and they said it was great. Not your typical Mexican food but really high end gourmet dishes. I saw at least 5 different mole dishes. Caters to fish mostly.

I ordered the Ceviche and the Tampiquena. Both were delicious. Steak was tender and the sides were well presented and flavorful.

If you like tequila then you need to check this place out. They have the largest collection of tequilas I've ever seen. From the cheap to the "it's how much?, wow"
