This is a very busy restaurant, we were lucky to get seats at the bar. Ordered the tri tip sandwich with fries and coleslaw......delicious, huge amount of meat. They also have a good selection of craft beers. Bar staff were friendly; good service.

We didn't feel like going far, so decided to try Phil's. The line wasn't too bad since it was only 5:30pm. I decided to get the boneless chick & rib plate with just an order of fries. My husband got the full rack of pork ribs with baked beans & cole slaw as his sides. It was delicious! More than... More

We were in town at a convention. We wanted a different place to eat. This was recommended. I am glad we came. We ate at the location near Old Town. You either go to take out line or dine in line when entering. They asked if it was our first time there. We were given small pig stickers to wear.... More

Phil's BBQ is one of those places that will never let you down. Their ribs are the best in town always tender and tasty. If this is your first time visiting let the host know that way they can explain you how their service work. Also if you go alone or with adult friends you can skip the waiting line... More

Phil's on Sports Arena is a great place for a bite before attending a concert at the Sports Arena. Although, very busy we were able to eat in the bar with a shorter wait than searing in the dining room. The staff were high energy and on top of getting the customers sat asap. The service is superb and the... More

I cannot say how much I love the food at this establishment. They're ribs fall off the bone and their meat is seasoned to perfection with their signature barbecue sauce. Definitely must recommend. We stopped here after going to sea world at lunch time. We lived thus place so much we visited the next day over. If you're planning on... More

Food was awesome! We had the pulled pork and brisket plates. Coleslaw was on the sweet side (which we prefer) and the sides were just as tasty. Atmosphere totally fun! Great prices, too, with healthy portions. Fantastic beer menu. Authentic BBQ on the beach!

Had a pulled pork sandwich which had lots of meat much of which was burnt. There is only one flavor/heat of bbq sauce and that is sweet. The seating and ordering are like being at a fast food place versus a restaurant and you wait in long lines for this! We asked the "server" at least three times for ranch... More

Description
For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).
