The food here is amazing. When people say this is the best burger in Manhattan they aren't exaggerating. This was the best burger I have had in Manhattan.

Stopped by on a Friday night with a friend. The only place in the neighborhood without a 45 minute wait. Sat at the bar to order drinks and table was ready in 5 minutes. Great date night ambiance, intimate lighting and tiny tables to share. Get the burger! Also recommend the grilled cheese & tomato soup - an adult twist... More

We stopped by for drinks early evening. There's a good choice of beer some nice wine and a good cocktail list. Staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't eat but the food looked good. Fresh oysters and burgers looked popular.

Black market is a small place, next to Niagra, a long time neighborhood bar. The Menu is small, but every choice is good. The drinks are hand made, with fresh ingredients, and the best around. So if you are looking for a new place to get great food and great drinks, this is the place. After, go to Niagra, next... More

Just wanted to say, the sandwich board outside claimed you had the best burgers in NYC. So we tried them. You weren't lying! Absolutely delicious!

An extraordinarily dark restaurant and bar, Black Market serves cocktails with names inspired by 70s rockers like Bowie and Eno. They've also got a great selection of oysters. There are only a few beers offered on tap. My only disappointment was the deviled egg, which I believe was $3 for one deviled egg and really wasn't anything special. The music's... More

If you are looking for a great place to eat, and a special drink, adult or otherwise, this is the place. We took a large group there recently, a true test of any places ability to perform, and they did great. Food was good, well prepared, with friendly service. We will be back.

We started our evening at this local venue and almost ended up not going out for dinner. To the spot music, friendly treatment - and the cocktails, oh, the cocktails.

I came in here one night after work solo. I ordered a burger and a blue moon. The staff is just okay, not super friendly or anything. It is kind of dark in there, and the night I went they had the front door open so it was particularly hot in the front area and just only a little bit... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
