First off the space is gorgeous, warm, inviting, quirky, and naturally so, not like some places that "try" to be that. Their selection for bitters, amaro and cocktails is unlike no other. The staff and servers are passionate, geeked out (in the most favorable, complimentary way), knowledgeable, and super professional. Can't wait to return and explore more of their offerings!

This is a small little place that specializes in bitters. You have to be able to handle that after taste with each sip. I ordered a negroni- it was way too bitter for me. My husband got something with dark rum his was much better. Ask the people behind the cash register for advice before u order. There is no... More

What a charming little bar. Stopped here to get a Negroni (the internet told me this was the best one to be had in NYC). It was mixed with skill. Had a second cocktail I liked even more (though, unfortunately, the name escapes me). The bartender was straight from central casting. He was charming and professional. I will have to... More

Had two brilliant cocktails here - not shy on the alcohol! Came here on a recommendation from a friend and exceeded expectations - Austin provided great service and gave a lot of tips on other bars in the area

Actually stumbled upon AyA by accident walking to another cocktail lounge. I recognized the name from a recent hot spots list so we went in for a drink. Very small place. About the size of a street side coffee bar. Eclectic decor. Their cocktail list is not very traditional. Welcomed as soon as we walked in and menus were handed... More

We came into this bar rather late before closing time, but the still got served. The bar is small, but has a good atmosphere and good drinks.

If your looking for a different kind of drink this is it. All the drinks are made with bitters. It's an acquired taste but worth a go. The bar is small and cute and the servers were great. Thought the drinks were a bit overpriced.

OH MY BITTERS. Love Amaro, and all things similar. They have an amazing collection of bitter liqueurs and mixers. And the very well versed bartenders, and regular know-it-all customers, would probably correct me for something I've just written. If you like bitters, bitter drinks, cocktails, and bartenders that mix some interesting delights, you'll very much enjoy this delightful little specialty... More

This bar was spectacular. If you are looking for something different to try, that is not your average cocktail bar, give this place a go. The drinks were tasty, but what made the experience spectacular was the staff. Very helpful with drink suggestions as well as suggestions on other places to try in NYC. Just had an overall great experience... More

Just had afternoon drinks here. While the premise is good and the collection of bitters is interesting, the snarky and pompous bartender ruined the experience.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
