A very quaint, small restaurant. The space is small but the atmosphere, food, and service make up for it. The food was amazing. Having been to France, this restaurant felt like it was situated right in Rue Cler. Definitely worth a visit if you are in West Village.

I live in the West Village and this is one of my favorite places. Sure it's tiny, cramped, but that's part of the charm. The dishes are delicious and we've even tried their take out. I usually order the tuna tartare and then pick another appetizer and I'm stuffed. (btw, the gnocchi with smoked mozzarella is quite good.) Entrees are... More

Two of us had Sunday brunch here. $18 Prix fixe and cash only, with no bar (BYOB). I suspect the experience would have been dramatically better had I come for dinner or lunch during a weekday, but this was one of the strangest meals I've had anywhere. About 25 patrons and 3 waiters were crammed into a space about 12... More

Nice atmosphere in a tiny French Bistro in the West Village. Tartine opens at 5:30 PM and we arrived by 6 PM, when we still had a choice of tables for 2. By 7 PM the place was filled. My friend ordered 2 appetizers in lieu of a main course: Escargots were fresh and delicious! The duck leg served on... More

Greatest spot to savor New York quaintness and good food. Best part- you can bring your own wine! Negative- it's small so the wait can be long. But well worth it.

I stopped here for lunch while walking through West Village. The welcome was warm and service efficient. I ordered the thyme-roasted salmon sandwich on ciabatta with a green salad on the side. Both were excellent. Although I did not try them, the house-made European-style pastries looked wonderful.

Came here for dinner last saturday night. Got the last outdoor table at about 6:30pm and the inside filled up very quickly after that. By the time we were leaving at 8:00pm there was a small queue of people waiting for tables. Service was really friendly, laid back but suitably attentive. The kind waiter pointed us in the direction of... More

Always crowded, almost always a wait but once you get a table it's well worth it. I love to sit outside on a crisp fall morning drinking a byob mimosa with their yummy coffee and a delicious egg dish. Quintessential West Village. Tarting has been around FOREVER and there is a reason why!

One of our top favorites in Manhattan. Mussels and fries are outstanding. Bring your own wine a big plus.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
