I dare you to order something off the menu that you aren't sure about. Especially if you are an inexperienced vegan. Chances are, you will be rewarded greatly. Tonight I had the pomegranate-glazed seitan brisket with mashed potatoes and veges. I could have licked the plate after eating it clean. There are "common" menu items like mushroom risotto which are... More

The staff was very nice and helpful. The food was excellent. Loved the carrot cake in a waffle. Will go back again next visit to NYC.

This was my third visit to the Candle Cafe, a casual place with minimalist decor, good vegetarian fare. I miss the old menu which had better variety, but the avocado tacos were enjoyable as was the black bean burger.. Candle Cafe West and Candle 79 are definitely more upscale with broader menu offerings, but for a quick bite out, Candle... More

I had Live Enchiladas (23) just now for lunch. Good food made from fresh ingredients, friendly servers. Good place for vegan!

This is a small cafe in Manhattan, so when you're tired and hungry from all the shopping you've done this is the place for a veggie/vegan person to be at. We had the spicy tomato chickpeas and the portobello and black bean burger, yummmm food. We also had some desert which was also very nice. Would highly recommend this place... More

There is truth in the axiom: If it ain't broken don't fix it. The formerly funky and fantastic vegan restaurant had a makeover. The new modern, minimalist look with its bare walls has created an uncomfortable, sterile environment with a deafening noise level. The remodeled bathrooms, however, are a big improvement--they seem cleaner and less cramped. The menu has changed... More

We're not strict vegetarians, but tend to enjoy vegetarian fare. Our experience here was a mixed bag. Starters and desserts were very good, but our entrees were disappointing. Maybe this is as good as it gets for vegan. Servers were very personable. The place does seem quite popular, and the noise of the crowd made conversation somewhat difficult.

More and more, I'm eating vegetarian or vega food, many that I prepare myself for myself, but also exploring restaurants with those lineups. This one is a very pleasant stop, not only for new ideas, but just for eating. The staff is very friendly and they are very generous with their recipes for those things that I decide I like.... I've been to this place before and it is absolutely delicious! But it's currently closed for renovations, so imagine my surprise when I arrived hungry to find it all closed up. Not sure of a reopening date, but their sister restaurants are still open.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
