When I heard this conic East Village vegan staple was closing, I knew I had to come. I had been meaning to try Angelica Kitchen for years but life gets in the way.... On a cold and rainy day, I came in for lunch and the place was packed. I came in alone and was able to get a spot... More

Staying on W31st for a couple of nights....snow was starting but I fancied some local veggie fayre. So headed down to the village....travelling alone on business. Charming place, 10 min walk from subway station. Welcoming staff who offered me own table or shared; went for shared and sat at big wide table. Read the NY Times....like a real newspaper, not... I'm from out of town but I have eaten at Angelica Kitchen several times. The food choices are great and the prices are reasonable. There are great soups, salads, mains, and daily specials. Their miso soup is wonderful, the avocado toast had a generous portion of avocado, and the walnut-lentil pate was tasty. They have their own style of gluten-free... More

Had a very nice vegetable soup with some cornbread. My entree was the coconut curry. It was good, with many interesting ingredients. Recommended for food that will make you feel healthy.

Waiter was lovely and the food beautiful. Would definitely recommend. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and the general ambience is calm and friendly. The food was served promptly and nothing was overlooked. We had two juices, one chilli, one dal special, hot chocolate and one drink which had apple vinegar in it but I can't remember what it was... I had the pickled dishes with the beets, cabbage, etc. Wasn't very good in my opinion. I couldn't finish the cabbage and was still hungry afterwards. Other people in the party didn't like what they ordered either. It is nice seeing so many vegan places now-a-days, so nice in fact that we have the option to go to ones we... More

The restaurant is cute and you're always welcomed by kind, informative staff. The food is tasty, and there's a wide variety of dishes, but it's nothing sensational. I had the burger, and though the veggies were fresh and tasty, and the sauces were nice, the patty itself was dry and tasteless. The soups and curries looked much better. Prices are... More

Normal place with normal food. Not very tasty and not very bad. It did not impress me at all. I did not become a vegan :)

Had dinner here with my sister, a strict vegan (I eat anything). Liked this place very much. Nice vibe, though tables are a bit tight. Service was pretty good (Sat night) and food was very tasty. Prices are reasonable. I would go back.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
