Not a lot on the menu, so if you plan to eat dont be so excited. It does serve some basic stuff, we like the impossible burger. Thought nothing impossible about it, at first we thought a 18$ burger named impossible would be like the heart attack burger. Nothing close to it, this burger is medium but very tasty. Loads... I've been waiting years for the Impossible (plant-based) Burger to show up in restaurants. It's recently debuted at Public and it did not disappoint--absolutely spot on, delicious hamburger, minus the suffering and damage to the environment and health! Was pleasantly surprised with the ambience at the restaurant as well--very attractive place, and comfortable with lovely service.

Easy to make reservations on Open Table Tasting menu seemed an easy choice for two of us Room was so dark that you could not read the menu or see your food. First two courses were good, tasteful but then the quality dropped off . Tables too near.

We went 2 nights ago to try the famous "impossible burger" at the bar. It was fantastic, delicious, worth every penny. It's not a huge burger (maybe could be a bit bigger??) but was very very flavorful and in my opinion, would satisfy and hoodwink any true burger lover. As noted many times in other reviews, the ambiance is warm... More

This is a destination place with refined food and a evocative atmosphere. It can get a little hectic and the service is sometimes not the most attentive, but you cannot fault the overall experience. Have never been disappointed with what the kitchen turns out. And if the waiter is rather stretched, just flag him/her down. The sommelier is very helpful... More

I was really excited to try public after reading reviews but found it so disappointing. The waiter that we had was so rude barely making eye contact when you would speak to him , everything was an inconvenience to him ! Would not recommend to friends after my experience

Cool place, nice vibe, great location, good service. Sat in a small, sort of private room in the back. That's where it ended. Small, uninspired menu, very very small portions. Had a hard time deciding what to order because nothing jumped out at me. Everything everyone ate was average but with a high price tag for what it was. Can't... More

Had booked a table from home, chose between a lot of restaurants but the choice fell on Public because of their star - that should somehow be a guarantee that you get good, well prepared and tasty food. But sadly no. We ordered the six course tasting menu and it was disappointing all the way through. They started with a... More

Staying in Nolita

Neighbourhood Profile
Nolita
Despite being just off of busy Houston Street, Nolita maintains a low-key vibe that makes it a pleasant retreat in the heart of lower Manhattan. Short for “North of Little Italy,” Nolita was once considered to be part of Little Italy. Today, the neighbourhood is popular with young fashionistas popping in and out of the chic independent boutiques that line Mulberry, Mott and Elizabeth Streets. In addition to shopping, there are cozy restaurants and sidewalk cafes serving everything from new-school Italian food to the world-famous cronuts. While small in size (Nolita stretches just a few blocks in each direction), it’s a great neighbourhood to spend an afternoon people watching, window-shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat.
