We came here for the lounge since we did not get a reservation. We ordered three items all are nicely presented but the flavor was not as good. There was basically no service. After coming from per se lounge we expected better service and food. However, will give their tasting menu a try next time.

Just two of us , so no problem as requested we both chose from the same menu to deliver this level of food . Went for the chefs tasting menu and enjoyed the majority of the dishes . I liked the sweetbreads and the Venison and the birds nest dessert . I found service was attentive and professional and they... More

My girlfriend and I loved this place. We wanted the fine dining experience in NYC no gimmicks and aquavit was absolutely 5 Star. My girlfriend is so perfect for these things because she has no shame about asking our waiter a hundred questions about the food and honestly some of dishes were so different that it really helped to know... No question the food is outstanding, and a soothing Nordic atmosphere, but we had the most arrogant service we have ever experienced at a restaurant of this caliber. We were made to feel badly about having some special dietary requirements; were mockingly told that yes, cheese is vegetarian; ordered black truffles which never arrived; seemed to have run into a... Ditto, to the recent review titled "no substitutions" How uncomfortable to have our dinner guests forced to "confess" their food preferences (even allergies) because we all HAD to order from the same tasting menu. At the end of "negotiations" no one was pleased. Each of us felt we had settled in trying to accommodate others. Had the food been wildly... More

We were 4 people for dinner at Aquavit. They have three menus, including two tasting menus. Everyone at the table has to have the same menu. When we asked if we could substitute a dish from the other menu, we were told, in no uncertain terms, that this was not possible. Take it or leave it. With such a limited... More

Scandinavian cuisine specialising in seafood. Food was simple but great all around. Good service as well.

I dined at several Michelin starred restaurants while visiting NYC, and this was my favorite. While only two stars, enjoyed it better than another three starred one I dined at. We tried the Chefs Tasting Menu and had a succession of very interesting and varied courses. This menu consisted of Nine courses, plus four extra starters, plus three extra sweets... More

We've been to many Michelin star restaurant (1, 2 and even 3) and this one surprised us as we didn't find the originality that you would expect from this type of places. Out of all dishes I think that only one was great and the rest were just average. My partner kept saying "I am sure next plate will be... More

Was here for large party in the private dining area/room. The food was excellent. Very minimalistic and beautiful space.

Restaurant Aquavit opened to immediate success in midtown Manhattan in November 1987. More than two decades later, Aquavit continues to be one of New York's most popular and highly esteemed dining destinations. A pioneer on the American dining scene, Aquavit remains the only world-class modern Scandinavian restaurant in the country, and was also the first restaurant in New York to house two concepts under one roof: a casual bistro serving hearty, simple fare and a formal dining room offering refined, modern Scandinavian cuisine. Owner Håkan Swahn has always been involved with every aspect of the business, and his passion and vision are what steer the restaurant. Executive Chef Marcus Jernmark is in the kitchen every day, where his talent and his commitment to quality and authenticity are apparent in every ingredient he purchases and every dish he prepares. Swahn and Jernmark collaborate closely on Aquavit's menus, and together they provide leadership and inspiration to the team at Aquavit.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
