Our sandwiches were great as was the ambiance however our waiter, who wore one glove, lacked enthusiasm and personality! We were seated for table service and twice had to ask the people seating patrons to get us a server. One time when they got his attention he was at the counter eating a sandwich, looked directly at me, turned his... More

Stopped by here on our way to the Tenement Museum around the corner. I know it's overly touristy, but it was still a great visit. My wife and I were going to order separately until we saw the guy in front of us get his sandwich. They're huge! Unless you're very large or extremely hungry you'll want to split the... More

We arrived at 11:30 AM for an early lunch and it was busy but not overcrowded. Please be ready to order and have your ticket ready for the man behind the counter to mark your ticket. There is a $50 lost ticket fee even if you didn't eat. The pastrami is the juiciest and most tender I've ever had. The... More

So many people seen the movie When Harry Met Sally but never realised how good the food is. The breakfas menu - including the typical NY menu of Bagel with Eggs/Bacon/Cheese is great. Try the Bacon - its cured beef, and cooked like bacon - amazing Their famous pastrami, was new to me, as I never pastrami before. Apprently its... More

The best, you cannot go to NY without going to Katz's. I had the Reuben and it was amazing, like butter just melts in your mouth. Love love love Katz Deli!

They say Katz's is the best pastrami in NYC. They're not lying. If you want to taste the magnificience of the jewish smoked meat sandwich, Katz is the place to go. Worth the wait and the price tag (~20$ for a sandwich with 1 pound of meat). They're ENORMOUS, so you can share it (but it's so good, you won't... More

We were told this was the best place in town to get an authentic pastrami on rye sandwich. In addition, it was made famous in the movie When Harry Met Sally (admittedly I have never seen it). They have a system to get you in and served quickly. Make sure you save the ticket you are given at the door... More

The food is amazing. The staff is incredible. The crowd is ridiculous. If you pick a super late time to eat lunch, then there shouldn't be a line to wait. I came by around 1 pm had to wait 15 minutes and another day I walked by at 3 pm and saw that there was no line at all. Seating... More

First, the pastrami Reuben was really good and it was a good size to split unless you have a very large appetite. The pastrami was fatty and flavorful, but not salty or have any nitrate taste. They give you a mix of pickles, which seemed one was homemade and one was not, mixed reviews there. The potato knish was also... More

Lived in the Lower East Side in the 1960's and decided to visit my old neighborhood and go back to KATZ DELI to get a Pastrami Sandwich and Hot Dog. Where should I start, I waited on line outside then also waited in side. When I got to the counter to order, I specifically said "Cut fat off and cut... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighbourhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
