Chez Josephine, a Josephine Baker themed restaurant had it all. Very good food, some of the best service ever, an excellent wine selection and OMG the piano player was superb. I can't say enough good things about piano music accompaniment to an excellent meal. Gershwin-era...More

We visited this restaurant without a reservation, was seated immediately and made to feel at home. Food was good and service even better, however the best thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere. Would happily recommend.

We had a table in the back which was quieter. Our waiter was friendly and provided very good service. The calves liver was the best I've ever had at a restaurant. My wife's duck was also very good and the vegetables were plentiful. I thought...More

Had an early evening dinner this past Tuesday. The wait staff were very attentive, and at the same time we didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere had a pleasant energy to it, with live piano music, and delicious food. Had a large scallop that was delightful.

This was my second visit, both times I stopped in saying only for drinks and, despite Chez Josephine's being busy, was given a table and amazing service without being rushed. This visit ended up including cocktails and one main course and we couldn't fault a...More

Chez Josephine offers excellent service, great food, a glamorous 1920's Josephine Baker atmosphere topped off by live piano tunes from the "Great American Songbook" for the most part. We loved it!

My Lady and I met her Brother and his wife here at their suggestion; good suggestion! This restaurant is dedicated to the life of Josephine Baker, the American songstress who captivated Paris during the early years of the last century. Posters and photos of her...More

The prix fixe brunch at $22 was a streak, three courses - we had smoked salmon, then eggs Benedict and finally profiteroles—- all good. Piano player wasn’t too loud. Place was full. Chez Josephine never disappoints.

This is my 4th visit and I am sorry to say my least favorite. The server was very attentive and we also were seated promptly. However, our meal is not as good as in the past. We started with fried oysters which had way to...More

The last time I was there, in spite of being assured there was going to be a piano player, there was not one, so I would definitely call ahead.

I would definitely consider this an upscale place, great for a birthday dinner. And certainly, wait for the theater crowds to leave.

The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.
