The restaurant was interesting. Very tight seating, almost shoulder to shoulder with our next door neighbors. The service was slow (either they were over-booked or understaffed) and the food was just okay.

We had lunch at Chez Josephine. There are new owners and they have kept the Paris look and the many Josephine Baker Posters and paintings along with the bistro menu. I think that Jean-Claude would be happy. We had the brunch prix fixe and it...More

Recommended by a friend we gave it a shot. Service was slow and not friendly or helpful. Food was OK but not memorable. Atmosphere was tired, stale and needs a refresh. With so many alternatives this is not the place I would return to in...More

Never again. Ever. Cheap thrills. Tacky decor and smashed tables that are too close to one another. I had to send my cocktail back 3 times - 3 TIMES! Nothing was authentic. Waste of time and money.

Hmmm ..... I can't say 'French', but if I thought French going in, then I would say no. That said, the meal wan't at-all bad. Trout, Crab Cakes, Salmon, Calf Liver were all tasty, good portion and satisfying. Wines (red&white) tasted normal. Quickly served even...More

My wife and I wend to Chez Josephine last Saturday. The setting was promising enough. Good piano bar music and good food. One of the few restaurants in that price range where you don't leave hungry. Things go downhill from there. When pre-dinner rolls were...More

The food was just ok - I can't believe a 'French' restaurant would serve whipped cream out of a can. Where is Gordon Ramsay when you need him. The waiter was completely hopeless - I struggled to give the obligatory tip.

My daughter and I went to Chez Josephine last evening before a venue. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was extremely warm and attentive. My daughter ordered the spaghetti Bolognese and I ordered the lobster cassoulet. My daughter enjoyed her spaghetti. The broth was...More

I would definitely consider this an upscale place, great for a birthday dinner. And certainly, wait for the theater crowds to leave.

The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.
