I have been to One if by Land many times over the past 20+ years and historically it has been one of my favorites (especially in winter when the fireplaces are glowing), but i took my family to dinner there this past Sunday evening and the food was just awful. We should have been tipped off when we were told... More

Seems wrong rating this "average" given the quality of food, which was excellent. But I gave it quite a bit of thought. We came here on a Friday evening for a birthday meal. The good: Greeted by a very friendly lady (manager I guess?) who confirmed that she was able to meet my request for a quiet table by the... More

My sister and I had dinner (4 course) the day before Valentines. There were plenty of choices within the menu for both of us (and they dealt easily with my shellfish allergy). Beautiful dining area down stairs, with views of the garden. I recommend requesting a downstairs room if possible. The Signature drinks are interesting and very good, but a... More

When we visit NYC we always try to eat here. The food, the ambiance and the service combine to make One if by Land, Two if by Sea a truly outstanding experience. We usually order from the ala carte menu. We especially like the caramel glazed sea bass and the wild mushroom ravioli, but there is sufficient variety on the... More

Went some great friends that I do not see that often. They choice they place, usually I do my research before attending. Had I read the reviews and was aware of a "pre-20% tip" was already added, I certainly would not have left an additional 20% on top of the "pre-20". When you split bills, the "pre-20" was not separated... More

Everything was excellent from service, staff food and ambiance even though it's a little bit pricey. My only complaint was that of a lighted candle on the table which gave me an uncomfortable sensation of being a potential fire hazard. I would suggest that they replace then with LED candles.

This beautiful, historic space was charming - with 2 fireplaces to sit by, sip a drink is perfect for a late night drink. We did not have dinner as we went for drinks post Hamilton - and it's the bar that Aaron Burr purchased after moving back to NY. Perfect. The bar staff was great, the piano player talented. The... We made reservations early, but still had to wait 2 and a half hours to be seated. Aside from the wait we loved the restaurant. It was beautifully decorated and we had a very nice table by the windows. Because of the wait the owner comped us a round of drinks and a bottle of wine with dinner, it definitely... More

I wish I could rave about this restaurant. I wish I could tell you to go there for your next special celebration. I can't. I reluctantly say to you: go elsewhere. The venue is a grand old spot - ye olde chandeliers aplenty, tuxedo-ed staff and 2 roaring fires. But that's where the list ends. The waiting staff were somewhere... More

This is not a cheap place to eat, but if you like good food, good wine and a romantic atmosphere this is well worth the dollars. The service was spot on and the food was hot, delicious and very fresh. I recommend the Beef Wellington and it was cooked to perfection. We would love to come back when we are... More

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
