We tend to have a meal or 2 at La Bonne Soupe when we scoot through NYC. It's consistent and good value. This time I had the 'bonnne soupe' set - barley and mushroom soup, salad and creme caramel. The soup was as advertised - hearty and savoury. Salad was a tad overdressed, dessert was creamy and rich. We'll be... More

Much recommended on trip advisor and I can see why. It's friendly and, for New York, good value. But if you're looking for French atmosphere you won't find it here. The music was a delight for me - sound tracks from my youth in the 80s but there is nothing French! No gingham table clothes and the bread is of... More

Looking for a quick lunch in the unseasonal weather. Just had the soup and a crepe. Good service, reasonable food and cheap as chips. Went there two days in a row.

I've been going to La Bonne Soupe for almost 30 years and is has remained a stalwart of consistently good food in midtown Manhattan. You can count on their soups, salads and omelets to be very good. I especially like their own homemade salad dressing. Today I had the Salad Gorgonzola with the homemade dressing (which is a dijon mustard... More

By Manhattan standards, this is very good value for the money. Good food, good service, you will sit close to other tables but hey, that is New York City. I like the prix fixe menu that includes soup, bread, glass of wine, and dessert. Can't remember, may include small salad? Anyway, nice place for lunch or dinner.

Very few places have fondue anymore but La Bonne Soupe still serves it. Service is always great and I like the intimacy of the restaurant. I have seen other entrees served and they look delicious but fondue always wins out.

After a long walk from our hotel on a clear and mild February evening, we reached the oasis of La Bonne Soupe. The restaurant was full, and we were escorted to a table on the upper floor. The first thing that grabs you is the atmosphere. Warm and friendly with the buzz of conversation and contented people. The waitron was... More

Having read the reviews, we opted for this restaurant, and also, because of traffic, it was too late to get to Le Veau D'Or (an excellent French restaurant) for lunch. The onion soup was excellent. The quality stopped there. My Florentine Crepe was filled with a creamed spinach mixture which was far from fresh and peppered with canned mushrooms. One... More

Went with a friend and three 12 year olds. Service was outstanding! Lots of options on the menu for all ages. We shared a charcuterie that was one of the best we've had in ages. Plated for two but easily could have been for four Cocktails are amazing. The owner personally greeted everyone arriving - both old faces and new... More

Two of us had the lunch soup special--soup and salad, a drink (glass of house wine, coffee or soft drink) and choice of flan or chocolate mousse for dessert. We both had the onion soup and it was outstanding--great onion broth, nice bread, and delicious broiled Gruyere on top, very slightly charred. Truly wonderful. Unfortunately the salad was very ordinary... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
