Sammy's is a Chinatown restaurant that happens to be in the West Village. I'm a native New Yorker and have been going there for decades. Sammy's is quieter and more spacious than many of the more popular restaurants on Mott Street, which is good becuase I'm not a big fan of crowds or noise. The primarily Cantonese and Mandarin menu... Many places in Chinatown, mostly downscale and frequented by locals, serve this type of food. But, if you'd like a little less noise, a bigger variety of menu, and not having to be a local to get through the menu, this is the place. Everything on the menu is quite tasty and with a large variety and decent prices, a... More

With scores of Chinese restaurants to choose from this one stands out for consistently good food and attentive service. It's conveniently located on 6th Ave between 10 and 11 street. Close to L line on 14 st. The large soup bowls are a good choice.

I've been coming to Sammy's whenever I am in NY (every couple of years) since my brother who lives here took me here at least 15 years ago. Just went again tonight and the food is as amazingly great as always. You know the place must be good because it is nowhere near the usual major tourist spots (not in... More

Great service, amazing fresh to order food. I had roasted pork wonton soup - it was divine, the pork was fresh roasted and sliced thin, beautiful dish, very hot and tasty. Egg Rolls were made fresh. Try this place. YUMMY

Was a favorite for a while, loved chicken with garlic sauce. The place is popular and can be crowded. For locals, tourists and Asisns too ad the menu is extensive. Well priced and you will get your fill. I've moved on to another places as ..first of all I went to Sammy's for several years because other local Chinese restaurants... More

We have been eating dishes of the sort Sammy's serves for several decades - in the US as well as on many trips to China and other Asian countries over the years. Dumplings. Soups. Spare Ribs - and all sorts of stir-fries. Sammy's food is good. We stopped for lunch and were pleased with what we got with a minor... More

Sammy's is a welcoming place with a light, bright space and friendly wait staff. As is typical, the menu is long with lots of choices. We enjoyed the fried meat dumplings and the hot and sour soup. The Szechuan chicken dish with julienned carrots and celery had a red pepper next to it, but was barely spicy--we'll know to ask... More

Sammy's has always been our go to place for great Chinese food. It has a large dining room and it does get crowded so get there early. They have an enormous menu but I am going to narrow it down to my faves. We always start off with Steamed Little Juicy Buns. They are incredible. There is an art to... More

All around good food and excellent prices. I'm tempted to give it a low rating so that I'm less likely to wait in line the next time I go.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
