We visited the 9/11 Memorial and were walking towards SoHo when we came across the Cupping Room Cafe. We entered through what they referred to as the "other door" and had to walk past the kitchen to get to the host stand to get seated. The place was buzzing for Friday brunch (day after Thanksgiving). The food was delicious -... More

We had the tuna melt and turkey club. Both were ok, nothing special. Service was super friendly! Atmosphere was fun and warm with oldies music playing and a great sky light. Would love to go back and try something different

Good choice of food and drinks. No problem getting a table and some of the art work is very interesting if a little expensive. You'd need a massive room for the art work attached. Food was good as was the service.

Excellent and attentive service. Above average menu selections. A bit loud only because of the lay out and architecture. Any place that has a bartender who is willing to make a "sample" of a drink you've never heard of is number one in my book. Just a place you want to go back to...and I will!

Looking for a restaurant to have dinner on a Sunday evening...we were headed for the bar on the corner when we noticed the Cupping Room! Service was impeccable! The Mediterranean Sampler started off our dinner (which was fantastic), my wife had the Hallumi Salad and I had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Both were good! The ambiance was lively yet cozy... More

After walking around Soho one fine day we came upon The Cupping Room. Just loved everything about it. Decor is rustic and cool but warm and inviting at the same time. Had the Cobb salad without the bacon. Wonderful! Wanted the grilled octopus but they were out of octopus so now we must go back!!

A very good place, in trendy Soho, for a top quality brunch. Extremely busy at weekends, definitely accessible on weekdays, go for a top quality brunch. Would recommend their French toasts and their coffee. Warm ambience and quick service. For the genuine New York experience.

Highly recommended by a NY friend and deserving of its long history of serving locals rather than tourists. Great atmosphere. Recommend booking. Strong emphasis on local organic produce. Highly recommend Eggs Benedict with any of the mimosas. Impressive Bloody Marys too. Burgers were great. Nice walk down either 6th or 7th Avenue. Or subway.

Really nice breakfast! We ordered the 2 eggs dish, plain croissant, tea and coffee. The order came really fast and people were very pleasant!

The Cupping Room Cafe was established in 1977. It was originally a wholesale coffee establishment. Different blends of coffee were brewed and tasted by perspective customers. This act of blending and tasting different coffees is called cupping - hence the name The Cupping Room. The coffee tasting went so well that the owners decided to change the name from The Coffee Connection to The Cupping Room Cafe. They also decided to open the back of the store and sell coffee and pie to the local artists.

The building hosting The Cupping Room is a landmark building. It was the first "tall" building in SoHo and is more than 100 years old. The high tin ceilings, hard wood floors, pot-belly stove and exposed brick walls are all part of the original setting.

The Cupping Room was a home for artists and locals. Today it is still a neighborhood place where you can see the locals and the famous come together in our homey environment.

Staying in SoHo

Neighbourhood Profile
Once the artistic hub of New York City, SoHo (South of Houston) is now one of the premiere shopping destinations in the world. Housing everything from the most popular luxury brands to swank boutiques you won’t find anywhere else, this is a sophisticated shopper’s dream come true. Broadway teems with big-name stores and people during the day, while Prince and Spring Streets are the other main drags to explore by foot. Take a detour down the quieter side streets to see the real star of the district –majestic cast-iron architecture everywhere you look. What were once warehouses and art studios are now meticulously restored loft buildings favored by many of New York’s celebrities, making SoHo one of the trendiest addresses in the city. The pretty streets of Nolita (North of Little Italy) offer a more sedate vibe, with plenty of tiny boutiques and hip restaurants to seek out.
