Four adults had dinner here recently. Nice variety of French food. Owner comes out to explain specials, answer any questions, and take order, which is a nice touch. We had, Sole, shrimp, salmon & duck, and all were quite good. Wine list a little pricey. I don't like to be rushed, but at times service was inattentive.

Alan is an incredible owner who is so friendly. The food is authentic French with waitstaff that also speaks French. The peppercorn sauce steak frites is sensational. Their mussels are amazing. The broccoli mousse is a must have.

We went for my son's birthday tonight - what a great meal! The owner was so friendly, funny and helpful! We had mussels to die for, mushrooms in a puff pastry, brie with pears, escargot and a mushroom stuffed ravioli as appetizers. My dinner was a veal special - pounded thin served with a delicious potato gallete. Other dinners were... More

My husband and I took our 17 year old daughter and her friend here Saturday night to celebrate her birthday(belated).I wanted an authentic but not too pricey French restaurant. We all loved it.The owner,Alain treated us so kindly and has a great sense of humor.I had the bass dorade(fish) cooked perfectly. We tried the salade chausseur which was great and a mushroom... It's been here so long and is still under the radar. The millennials, the uber foodies and the newly-arrived hedge funders don't go here, so who does? The locals. We all have been going here for decades. It's solid, authentic French food, served in an unpretentious way, and has been consistently good for a very long time. When this place... More

The ravioli I had was quite good. My husband's meal was also good. The Tarte Tatin was pretty good. The one thing that really took away from the experience was that at least one of the waiters was not wearing deodorant - or needed to re-apply. Every time one walked by, we almost gagged. This wouldn't be a problem for... More

We were here for a group dinner. I do not recommend this restaurant for group events - the space is just too small. The food was not great. I had the chicken in mustard sauce and was given maybe 4 thin slices of chicken as my entree. The prices are therefore way too high for what you get. The waiters... More

I happened across La Ripaille when I was very hungry after a long walk, and am very glad I did. I had the prix fixe brunch (I had omelette, salad, glass of wine, coffee) on Sunday 3 January. It was very quiet (only three other tables occupied), and the food was good, the service just fine. Very much in the... More

The food in this restaurant is really disgusting! The "pate au poivre vert" does not desserve the name! One wonders with what he's done? I still wonder: What I est when I ordered the duck breast? The choice and quality of the ingrédients are doubtful. I am French and I scream loud! Do not go to this restaurant !! There... More

I was in a retro mood the other night and went to La Ripailles where I went last time was over a decade ago. Apparently my impression of it remains the same. This place including food and decor probably has not changed for either 2 or 3 or more decades which is fine as long as it offers quality. Unfortunately... More

Description
Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village. The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. The candlelit tables light up French posters and paintings & fresh flowers decorate each table. For a taste of history and delicious French cuisine, visit La Ripaille. We have a seat just for you.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
