It seems impossible that we first discovered La Ripaille almost forty years ago. Over the years it became our secret , our favourite place, sharing it only with our closest friends. Patrick and Laurent cared about every detail, but first and foremost they wanted their...More

Gone are the glory days of this restaurant in the West Village. I dined here again after many years with an old friend who lives nearby. We had paté and tomato bisque to start, mahi mahi and veal prepared with Calvados for mains and a...More

If not for the food go for the service. Wish I took his name great service Tues night french speaking waiter. Everything was decent a little pricier then expected and foie gras was not goose but duck.

Pish Posh! Lovely Greenwich Village eatery that makes an effort to please. The steak in pepper sauce with french fries is worth the visit. Popular destination area for tourists who may want to avoid the high priced menu. Come for a dessert outside instead of...More

The very friendly owner made sure that we enjoyed our evening in every way. Great selection of food and desserts, and specials. Plenty of space between the tables, and not the typical noisy restaurant experience very common in NY. Well worth a visit.

A French restaurant with a French owner, a French chef who worked in 1 or 2 star Michelin restaurant, wait staff that speaks French and excellent French food. Prices are "reasonable" considering the quality, preparation and being in NYC with most entrees in the mid...More

Great little neighborhood French spot perfect if you're popping in from around the corner but also worth a trip across town. Solid traditional French fare in a family owned and operated place where the pride of ownership shines through in all respects.

La Ripaille has been around for more than 3 decades and deserves its longevity for preparing authentically French food in a quaint and inviting atmosphere. I was there on a nasty, snowy evening made perfect with Edith Piaff and Charles Aznavour serenading me in this...More

West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the
West Village is one of the city’s most coveted
addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and
cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture,
this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You
won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan.
Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to
get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you

Opened in 1980, La Ripaille is one of the oldest restaurants in West Village. Some of the regulars have been coming for as long as 25 years. We want everyone to feel welcome here, whether it’s the celebrities who frequent, the children for whom we provide games & crayons, or the people who live in the Village. The owner, Alain Laurent, is integral in the day-to-day processes of La Ripaille. He daily scours the market for the freshest produce, often choosing the day’s specials based on his finds. This keeps the specials seasonal & unique. He decorates the ever changing wine list with the best wines available. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a terrace for the summer & a fireplace in the back for the winter. The candlelit tables light up French posters and paintings & fresh flowers decorate each table. For a taste of history and delicious French cuisine, visit La Ripaille. We have a seat just for you.
