In the mood for couscous and we have been here before. The food is very good but the portions are not huge. If you want an extra bowl of couscous, be prepared to pay. Knowing how inexpensive this grain is, it is highway robbery when they charge you $4. extra for a very small bowl. For an extra serving of... More

This is a great little restaurant on 2nd Avenue's restaurant row. Good selection of meat dishes and the vegetarian falafel sandwich is very good. Full bar, good service and both indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend.

My bestie and I went last year and I forgot to post review. Food, superb! Service, even better! Went through a groupon she purchased. We got so much for the amount of money it cost. The service was so good and the food was so good we left a 30% tip based on the real value of the meal. Also... More

The good food, lovely decor and excellent MUSIC will transport you to North Africa: Casablanca in the East Village. Though, I think the owners are Algerian. When I asked after a particularly wonderful piece of music the waiter said it was Algerian. The food is Middle Eastern and quite delicious. The decor is lovely with great attention to detail. Romantic.... More

A nice little slice of North Africa on 2nd Avenue. The menu has been anglicized a bit for a New York crowd (I did not see fried calamari in Marrakech), but the traditional dishes have the spice balance I miss from Morocco...even with ingredients I would not have necessarily had there. Duck pastilla for example...really nicely complimented by spices to... More

This restaurant tastes better than it looks, we had a delicious beet salad to start and an avocado one, you couldn't tell which was better because they were both excellent, fresh and utterly delicious. Additionally the terrace on the street is a great setting for people watching and attracts a young hipster crowd of gorgeous model like couples, we saw... More

The service, food presentation and sommelier service clearly deserves a recommendation of excellence. By all parameters the dinning experience was memorable. My only criticism of the dinner was the layout of the main dinning room which requires some innovation to match the rest of the effort. The sommelier is knowledgeable and can be depended upon to enhance the overall effect.

Nice atmosphere and decent pricing. We had one vegan among us and were able to find choices for everyone. We shared a pizza and the three dips. The goat cheese with Raisin Pizza was excellent. Overall everyone was pleased with their meals but this is not gourmet dining. Its good Moroccan style fare, basic...dependable. The service was fine (a little... More

We had one person who was a vegetarian and another who only eats meat so finding a restaurant to satisfy everyone was going to be a challenge. After reading Trip Advisor we found Nomad, and were happy to find something that would work for everyone in our party. The restaurant is cute/charming, quiet enough to hear the conversations at the... More

I wasn't sure what to expect from a Moroccan/Nigerian restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. The decor and ambiance were appealing and the food was quite good. The falafel burgers were very tasty, the prawns special was delicious, the chicken in philo dough and the braised lamb also got the thumbs up. We tried three of the desserts and they... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
