Had lunch in late July. Quality of food poor and way overpriced, tuna salad straight from can. Service ok, both clearly the place is out fashion and owners are just milking the last out

A group of 8 of us were just walking by and chose it for the atmosphere. We were all happy with our food. I'm a vegetarian and had a good pizza. The four cheese pizza was amazing. The service was good, keep in mind that it is only one chef and a tiny space to cook. The beer selection was... More

What if you were vegetarian, didn't like pizza and were starving? Well you would certainly not go to this restaurant! The menu doesn't offer a lot of choices and if you pick the salads, be sure not to be hungry or to prepare your wallet to spend huge amounts of money, for very little food. The owner is nice but... We came upon this place by accident. It had a small menu but the food was excellent. Service was also good.

Our party of 3 called late on a Saturday night, and they were able to squeeze us in at a low coffee table in the back - not ideal for dinner, but we took what we could get. We're 23 and could handle the back strain, and the atmosphere was very cozy. The menu was great, and our waiter, at... More

We only had a drink but the atmosphere was good and the bit next door does cheap $3 pint from 5-7pm The windows were open and the bar man played The Specials - because "he like them a lot" over and over - luckily we like them to!

Against the Grain is the small bar attached to the Grape and Grain restaurant next door. It’s a small, quirky bar with a lot of character and a fantastic ever-changing beer selection. I popped in on a Monday afternoon and was the only one there, but got chatting with the friendly bar staff who picked out and let me sample... More

I love this adorable little wine bar! I meet friends here at least once a month and send people here when they are in from out of town (or friends who live in NYC but have not gone yet). The bartenders are always helpful and very friendly. The cheese selection is always changing and the is interesting. The wine list... More

Good food, good (but limited) choice of wines, casual and welcoming atmosphere. Four of us shared five of the delicious "small plates" and didn't feel the need to go back for more. Would definitely go here whenever I am in the neighborhood.

We happened by this place and had a great time! Nice couch in the back. Three of is split arugula, olives, cevice and two other apps plus a bottle of wine. The menu said cash and amex only but then it turned out that was the bar next door. All in all we had a great time, but everything was... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
