Instead of having the mob at Katz's deli, this is a good alternative . Had the specials & beans. Very good. Pastrami sandwich looked good, but not as big as Katz's

Neither if my Jewish grandmothers cooked like a Jewish grandma but 2nd Avenue Deli sure does! Local friends suggested we visit here if we could only fit in one Jewish Deli experience- and we can see why! It's Glatt Kosher which means very, very kosher but even though 2/4 of our family don't eat red meat, we were filled to... More

When we arrived, there was a long wait for a table, but opted to sit at the counter. We had a very nice server (don't know her name, darn it) and she guided us on what to order. The sandwiches here are very comparable to Katz's, i.e. huge, but we preferred the pastrami and corned beef here. Not even a... More

When I come to New York City, I always have breakfast at a Jewish Deli. A friend recommended Second Avenue Deli and I must say the entire experience was worth the wait standing in line. This is a TRUE Jewish deli-Cole slaw, pickles, premium meats, fresh homemade bread on top of GREAT service. Highly highly recommend.

The absolute best! 2nd Avenue Deli doesn't disappoint. This landmark Jewish Deli has all of the favorites that make you feel like you are in fat kid heaven! We started with sweet, pickled cabbage and Deli pickles. My husband and I each had a bowl of matzo ball soup. The matzo ball was perfectly cooked. The consistency of a cloud... More

This was an amazing find. An upmarket New York deli with all the old world charm. Everything oozes quality and care. I had the hot pastrami, which was a filling affair of the best tasting pastrami I've ever had the pleasure to eat. It was tasty and juicy as (I can't think of a suitable metaphor). My partner's Turkey Burger... More

Ordered the tripple decker pastrami sandwich for the full deli experience - was not disappointed ! Full-on Man vs Food challenge, authentic New York Deli food, great local beer, great service delivered with a sense of humour. Good alternative to Katz's.

Small counter at the entrance with a dining room at the rear. Owner(?) Steve is a hot rock and the counter staff is spot-on. Took home some deli meats for a week of great lunches.

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
