In the mid eighties I was taken here to have what was stated then as the best cheese steak you could have. Today I took my wife and was not disappointed one bit. We have had them at different places in our travels, with claims that they taste the same. Nothing tastes like a real Philly Cheese Steak. Thank you.

If you have a taste for a famous cheesesteak that represents the best of Philadelphia, you must eat at Sonny's. Their cheese steaks are the best. Dine in atmosphere is no frills but clean. Nothing upscale to shout about but the cheesesteak sandwich itself and the friendly limited staff.

Damn good cheesesteak. (Not the #1 in Philly though) Being from up North, I preferred it with just steak and cheese whiz instead of peppers/onion. Peppers were unusally sweet. Still... thumbs up, very good.

My 15-yr old daughter and I visited Philly on 3/11 for a few hours. Since she had never been to Philly, we asked someone where to get a good cheesesteak sandwich within walking distance from Independence Hall. The suggestion was Sonny's or Campo's. We went to Sonny's and glad we did. Very small (maybe 10-12 tables), but very good cheesesteaks.... More

My niece, a local resident, recommended Sonny's as her favorite Philly purveyor. I had the traditional Philly "with" Whiz. The husband strayed and got "with" provolone. We both enjoyed our sandwiches and the bread was good. Several people told us that the bread at some of the other places is not as good. We had to wait for seats at... More

Sonny's is ia good location...old city...The cheesesteaks were good but not great. Their style is to not chop up the steaks as fine as other places. I like the meat chopped up good. People like this place as seen by the lines. I'm glad I tried it but don't think it is my favorite. For some others, it may be... More

Overpriced, bland & the place seemed kinda dirty- I don't eat much meat but when I do I expect to love it. Bread was a little tough & chewy...maybe I'll try a street vendor next!!

After an afternoon of walking around to several landmarks, all I wanted was to grab an authentic cheesesteak that I could take back to the room. Sonny's was very convenient and the food was good.

On the quest for the ultimate Philly Cheesesteak ..not the best not the worst. This will shore up.on your play list. Inside eventually yields nothing. You can.pass on the entire experience. But on a lunch late night is fine. Fun polite staff. Reasonable prices, but not on the top five

Thank Carl M

Sonny's is known for its authentic, award-winning Philly Cheesesteaks just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell and National Constitution Center in the heart of historic Old City, Philadelphia. Sonny's is continually ranked number one on Philly Cheesesteak top ten lists, notably by GQ in 2014. We care about our sandwiches. We use 100% fresh Angus beef and slice it fresh every morning (most places order it sliced). Each sandwich is individually prepared to order (versus the now common practice of producing a batch of sandwiches at once). That's why both tourists and locals frequent Sonny's -- it's real and it's genuine, and it's delicious. Sonny's Cheesesteaks is in downtown Philly, convenient to hotels and sightseeing hubs. Tour groups and school groups flow in and out of local hotspot. We provide discounts to groups that book in advance online on the website. We also have discounts for US Military, police officers, students and a ton more! We pride ourselves on our friendliness. We love newcomers and are eager to teach folks everything and anything about cheesesteak. Don't get nervous ordering, and please, ask questions! Sonny's is the real deal Philly cheesesteak experience -- and it's easy to get to by foot, cab, or subway (SEPTA 2nd Street Station). Feel free to call for directions or check online.
