A very clean bar and restaurant. The women's bathroom was beautiful. The bartenders are authentic Irish and Scottish people. The woman bartender was extremely helpful. She pointed us to more bars in the area that were good for 40+.

This is a sort of Oasis in a big tourist area when you are really hungry but don't want to take the first thing you see after a full morning's sight-seeing. Competition is high and I was very satisfied with the service, food and price...More

Loved the sign outdoors so ventured in. Oh what a treat. The Scottish bartender was saucy and poured terrific libations. The regular patrons were very friendly and welcoming especially the Irish bartender and his two friends. We talked Philly, politics and past lives. Fun. We...More

Transport yourself to the British Isles when you enter this authentic looking Irish Pub. Menu looks wonderful - though we did not have a meal there. Will certainly return to taste the Shepard Pie. Great place to meet for cocktails - close proximity to newly...More

Description
At the Plough & the Stars the owners are determined to bring the true taste of Ireland to Philadelphia, our food is described as Western European with a strong Irish influence. We were awarded by Citysearch as Philadelphia's Best Brunch. We have been featured numerous times on the Food Network and have cooked at the James Beard House in New York. Enjoy our famous Mussells Veloute, Striped Bass with Potato Crusted Scales or Guinness Casserole. Or if you prefer you can dine on our casual bar fare. We have installed the most sophisticated beer system in the US, imported directly from Ireland and installed by Guinness technicians. Each pint of the 12 beers on tap is perfect. The atmosphere created by the simple, yet powerful decor and fills a visitor to the Plough & the Stars, with an overwhelming feeling of awe and inspiration. The stage is set for an enjoyable and memorable dining experience. Weekend nights turn the Plough into one of Old City's favorite bar scenes!
