The swordfish was scrumptious. The crab cakes were incredible. Dessert was fantastic. Our waiter, Richard, had all of the right recommendations - and was so very pleasant and accommodating.

After seeing the Special Exhibit "Matisse & Diebenkorn," we enjoyed a lovely early evening dinner at this restaurant off the lobby of the Baltimore Museum of Art. The dining room at night, with candle-light, glows with a mural on a far wall, banquettes, cozy tables, and polished wood with the glint of brass insignias iconic of the Chesapeake scattered around... Make a reservation!! By the time I did, the only times available were 11:30 and 1:30 and later. We ordered the Hutzler's Tea Room Club and the O'Malley's Powerhouse. Both excellent sandwiches. We asked for a little extra mayo on the side, but that is our taste. I would rather ask for a condiment than have a restaurant apply too... More
Christmas Lunch with girlfriends was very good. Menu was varied and meals were good and priced fairly. We enjoyed the half sandwich and soup or salad menu option. They have a bar, and we all enjoyed a celebratory glass of wine prior to our lunch. Good place for lunch with friends!
We had brunch at Gertrude's during a visit to the BMA. It is very convenient being in the same building. We had a slight pro problem with our table but the manager was helpful and solved it right away. Our waitress was very nice and knew the menu well. I ordered the crab quiche and it was excellent. A light... More
I was pleasantly surprised when visiting JHU and joining our hosts for lunch at this restaurant. The museum alone is still beckoning to me, but the restaurant is so beautifully situated along a corner of the restaurant, surrounded by glass and a sunroom, as well as artistic decor and colors abound. I of course opted for crabcakes, even though crab... More
We have had meals at museum cafes and restaurants all over the world, but this is simply the top! My husband and I planned a late lunch here after our visit to the BMA, but ended up waiting for 45 minutes as we didn't realize the crowd on a weekday was such that we should have made a reservation! BUT... More
Stopped in to Gertrude's for lunch while visiting the BMA. Place was packed so make a reservation. I sat at the bar which is first come first serve. You can choose from the regular menu or a specials menu: sandwiches to entrees. I started with a delicious Maryland Crab soup and then a delicious Catfish Po Boy sandwich. The food... More
Thank you so much for letting us know about your visit to Gertrude's. Delighted that you enjoyed the food but so sorry that we disappointed on the service. The Matisse exhibit has been an incredible boon for the restaurant and so we have been so busy while the exhibit is open. Of course, that's certainly no excuse for not putting... More
I went to see the fabulous Matisse-Diebenkorn exhibit today with an art buddy and we ate at Gertrude's (my first time here, not hers). Fortunately, we had the foresight to make a reservation when we walked in, since the place was packed. This is a much more formal restaurant that I am accustomed to for a museum, but the white... We went to see the Matisse/Diebenkorn exhibit at the BMA and decided to stay for lunch. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the Christmas season. The food was very good. Among the dishes we had was a yummy potato-leek soup and a crab soup. Two of us had the prix fixe lunch at $25.00 which was a bargain. We got... More
