In town for USA Fencing's Piedmont Challenge tournament, we visited this local favorite and were not disappointed. Delicious North Carolina-style barbecue! Our group tried the pork barbecue and the chicken barbecue. Both were excellent! For a truly local taste treat, try the all-the-way hot dog...More

We were in town and heard of Stameys great reputation thru magazines. We just had to try the Bbq, but by the time we got there, we had the combo of Bbq and chicken! Delicious! Nice smoke flavor, quick and hot! Chicken was hot and...More

Good NC BBQ sandwiches. I am not a fan of the coleslaw made with BBQ sauce. The peach cobbler is sweet and tangy, best when still warm! Well run and efficient kitchen and service.

I thought this place was kind of average in general. The barbecue was OK but not outstanding. I did not care for the slaw recipe, but that is my personal preference. Service was fast and pleasant. Prices are very reasonable.

This is a great place if you like Lexington style Bar B Q. The staff is pleasing and food can't be beat. Don't forget the cobbler and ice cream for dessert.

Smoky and lean, the chopped pork is delicious just as it stands. It goes well with the vinegar based slaw and the hush puppies.

You'll find decent BBQ here, of the pork variety. Also have chicken and other things, including breakfast now. Sauce is great. Service is very friendly. Prices are a great value. Portions are fair.

Living on the northwest side of Greensboro we sorely miss our "local" Stamey's but we managed to trek all-the-way-over-to-Gate-City-Boulevard every now and then to drop in and see our old friends that are waiting to return to the Battleground location. This particular trip it was...More

Coming from Eastern NC, we are told ours is the only true Barbecue but I learned Friday night last week there is other great Barbecue. Upon entry I was immediately seated, and just ahead of the rush. My order was immediately taken and quickly brought...More

Description
Most barbecue restaurants have introduced gas or electric cooking methods, but not us! We still slow cook our barbecue over a pit of hardwood hickory coals. The brick pits are completely enclosed, except for a bit of breathing room at the bottom. The hardwood coals are carefully monitored because they will dry the face of the pork if they get too hot. As each 15-pound pork shoulder cooks, the drippings fall onto the hot coals, sending the hickory smoke flavor into the pork. Once the tender pork is done, it is chopped or sliced to order, ensuring the freshest plate for our customers. No meal is complete without at least some of Stamey's keys to lasting barbecue success: Wood Cooked Pork Barbecue, Smiling service, Stamey's slaw, Fresh Brewed Sweet tea, Homemade cobbler and Hot Hushpuppies (introduced to North Carolina barbecue diners by founder Warner Stamey, himself!)
