Cute small grocery store that also sells sandwiches po boys and other hot foods. The grocery is run by French Truck's owner. Very friendly staff. Clean, cool. It was actually pretty quiet when stopping - I was expecting it to be a lot busier looking for a good sandwich? This is the place! We ordered Reuben - pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut,... More

This is a perfect spot for a hot sandwich and a cold drink after a tour of the Garden District. Our tour guide (Libby, Lucky Bean Tours) suggested this spot for their Mufuletta sandwiches. Small spot so you may have a wait but it is well worth a stop. Great sandwiches and a good selection of craft beer and wine... More

Reviews were good so we tried this place as it was near the houses we were touring in the Garden District. Short list of hot and cold sandwiches on the menu on the wall. We ordered hot grilled chicken sandwiches. You order food and take a seat at the table while you wait and wait and wait for your food.... More

I wish this place was in my home town. Great items at a good price to enjoy for cooking or etc. this grocery is very different but has all the ultimate items to prepare a meal. The manager was very kind and discuss the store ideals for a great customer service. History is in the building, go and find out... More

Best sandwiches in New Orleans would be accurate. You have to go to the Garden District to get this, but what a delight. Coupled with a walking tour of the Garden District and you have a perfect pairing for a nice afternoon, away from the French Quarter.

We saw this place on the trolley on Friday, and when we were wandering around the Garden District on Saturday, just happened to be by here and fell into it making our way back to St. Charles St. Our friends got the Cuban, and my wife got the Creole Corned Beef pressed po boy. Holy. Moly. I mean, it almost... More

I used to eat at this place a lot but went in recently for lunch and the prices have gone way up and the sandwiches aren't as filled as they used to be.

Stopped in for a quick bite before visiting the Lafayette cemetery and was not disappointed. Chose a muffaletta,it was nicely pressed with meats, gooey cheese and salty olives, yummy! Washed it down with a local Southern Pecan brown ale... gave me enough sustenance to go on with my visit. When in the Garden District make sure to keep The Grocery as one... More

Looks like a dive, but the food is made behind the counter of this small eatery, and it is good. Been here with friends and family and have never been disappointed.

Very nice place to have lunch as a start or finish point for the Garden district. Try the cuban pressed po boy and a real cold beer

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
