Had the japaleno burrito, it was good but had more rice than meat in the stuffing. The queso dip was one of the best I have had. Very busy.

So far I've tried the shrimp quesadilla, the crawfish banditos, the chef's special taco with pulled pork, and the queso & chips...all delicious! We have been three times now and I have yet to try something I didn't like. They are very good about putting something "on the side" or other special requests. Love the food and the artwork is... this lively open air restaurant serves good mexican fare with a slight local twist. crawfish tacos and shrimp and grits are novel for such cuisine. everything that our party of four enjoyed was served promptly by a friendly team working well together. pricing is fair. this is a very kid friendly place.

One of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever experienced! The food was spectacular and the atmosphere is great! Indoors or out on the patio this place does not disappoint its customers. I hear Taco Tuesday is great as well. Affordable and delicious like no other Mexican of its kind.

We stopped here to eat before heading to city park. The food was good. The food reminded me of the old Cocuo's restaurants. The margaritas were strong, but delicious! This place is very busy and crowded. I would eat here again.

This place was WONDERFUL! We were told it would be a 45mins-1HR wait, but we were seated in about 20 minutes. The waiter was so nice and prompt. The food was O M G! It was delicious!! Husband had the mixed fajitas. I ordered the cheese enchiladas. To die for! Margaritas were good, too. The guacamole dip was perfect! Prices... More

Eclectic, authentic. This is a good as an American interpretation of a Mexican joint gets. Quality of food was excellent. Service was excellent, as well.

Overall, the meal was satisfactory. Nothing great or exceptional. This was my third visit and I don't plan to go back. The sangria was boring with no citrus flavor so. The best thing on my plate was the grits. I think it was chorizo grits. That was tasty. The service was slow and there was not a line outside liketherehasbeen... More

I finally got to try this place on the way to a downtown concert, because my other choice in Lakeview was closed for remodeling. After arriving solo, I wisely asked to be seated in the patio. I was quickly placed at a table next to a wonderful gurgling fountain. The children just loved it too and only added to the... More

Today made the third visit to The Velvet Cactus. If we didn't like it, there wouldn't have been a second. We arrived right in the middle of a lunchtime crowd on a Saturday. The place was packed and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. We waited in the bar and the drink options seem to be... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
