We had never dined at The Steak Knife before and some friends gave us a gift certificate. We made dinner reservations for 4 and were seated promptly. We loved the atmosphere. White table cloths and rather quiet, we could actually have a nice conversation between the 4 of us at a very comfortable level. Our waiter was very attentive and... More

I am in love with this restaurant. I come here about 4-8 times a month. I always sit at the bar. The food is always consistent and delicious. I find the food much better than Ruth's Chris and much much cheaper. They have the best fried oysters in the city!!!! Many people say this. Whoever fries them are amazing!!! These... More

Ive been here several times. Great typical New Orleans neighborhood restaurant. Parking is always a problem but just need to be a little patient. Its a good steak. To me, very similar to most steak houses, steaks served in butter, sides that are good for two people (mostly).I had the 9 oz filet, ordered medium rare. Came out a little... More

For a restaurant that has been around since 1971, I had never been to this long time establishment in the Lakeview area. I ended up being pleasantly surprised and thought to myself, I could come here again. The restaurant and bar area are spacious, with just the right amount of subdued lighting I like in a restaurant. We went in... More

Best aged beef steak in town. Nice accompaniments, a la carte. Expensive. No parking except what you find on street.

Fifth or 6th time here. Bring graduates of my supervision. Steaks are alway consistently good . Order the porterhouse and have left overs for 2 more meals. Sides are classically done. Pricey but worth it (business expense).

First I have to suggest you taxi, uber or choose valet parking because the parking is a mess. It's right across the street from another popular restaurant and add in the other little stores/shops/restaurants/coffee places and parking on Harrison is a nightmare. We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The back room is the best place to... More

If your looking for the big chain steak house this is not it. The atoms sphere here is tasteful and very well appointed without being overly manly and dark. The bar is always packed with locals and the bar tenders very knowledgeable . While the steaks are very good, I highly recommend the Fish Robert (sauce on the side) and... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
