We ate meat ball Poy Boy and some crispy fried fish at the Gumbo Pot. Both were good with ample servings, and masses of fries & other accompaniments. A highly filling satisfactory lunch.

First on my list when arriving in New Orleans was a bowl of gumbo. I asked our hotel for a recommendation, and they said the Gumbo Pot which was right across the street. Much to our dismay, the Gumbo Pot is currently closed for renovation. Their sign did not indicate when they would re-open.

When we arrived, we noticed that the restaurant was almost empty. Upon first greeting, the host let us know that they DON'T serve alcohol. No problem for us. Prices were a bit higher than most places we had eaten in the French Quarter area. We each ordered the bowl of gumbo. It was very well portioned with rice in the... More

You can get gumbo everywhere in New Orleans and we tasted it in many restaurants. But none could compare to the gumbo in this nice little restaurant. Situated right on Decatur in the French Quarter it looks from the outside almost like a fast food place. We ate on the patio and the gumbo was the best as well as... More

The best feature of this restaurant is the location. It's easy to reach and easy to find. However, we should have kept walking when the M'tare'd informed us that they no longer served alcohol. The setup was nice, but the place was empty. The food was good, but "canned". The pasta jambalaya was definitely made from a "kit" and wasn't... More

Four of us had breakfast here. We were the only ones in the place and service was slow. We asked if she could split the check between the two couples and she said no. Against policy. They did not serve decaf coffee. And when we went to pay she said credit cards wouldn't be accepted because the storm the night... More

Our last meal before leaving the Crescent City. Can never have too many Po-Boys in New Orleans and this is a great place to do so

Shrimp Po Boys ($17 and that was the only thing on the plate) were ok. Service was poor. Establishment put gratuity on a check for two people - I'm certain to ensure a gratuity- because the staff were rude to patrons as well as each other. Would not recommend.

Cups of gumbo here are like others bowls. Lots of beer signs but no alcohol served. Perhaps an alcohol event happen here. Close to what's happening in French Quarter.

Thank Jerry Z

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
