Had lunch at Origami one day while staying at a nearby airbnb. Nice large modern restaurant, big bar and wide selection of standard and special rolls. Can't say that I would travel out of my way for Origami's food, but if you are staying in the neighborhood and crave sushi, you won't be disappointed.

I absolutely love this place. Besides the fact that I took my now wife here for our first date, the food is also amazing. They do great takes on different and fun rolls. Very fresh fish. They have great chicken teriyaki as well. Parking can be tough around lunch time, but that's just New Orleans for you. I would highly... More

We went here for my husband's sushi-themed birthday. Our kids live in new Orleans; our daughter-in-law is Japanese, so they know the local places. Service was good. There was a great variety of food that we all enjoyed. We had tempura, sushi, sashimi, noodles, hot tea, wine and were satisfied with everything.

During Mardi Gras 2016, my friend & I found ourselves with some time on our hands between parades so we asked the locals where to eat Sushi. Origami was the favored place. I can now see why we were directed there! ! This was the best Sushi I have ever eaten & I have eaten Sushi in a lot of... More

Wow. I have 3 reviews for Origami, more than for any other restaurant. Why? Because Origami's quality has varied so wildly. In my last visit the sushi bar service was cold and very nearly unfriendly. The waitress service was dreadful, as it has always been. And this time the food was disappointing as well. I believe they has exhausted me.... More

We were treated at the front with complete indifference and sat at the sushi bar as the sushi chef gave us an appropriate greeting to new guests in their sparsely occupied little restaurant. The sushi was excellent as was the sushi chef but the waitress - who brought us glasses of water as we finished our lunches - was a... More

A welcome addition to the bustling scene of Freret, this little jewel of a place is serving some of the best sushi in town. The staff is super friendly and the service on point. A cut above the rest.

The unpretentious appearance of Origami belies the scrumptious menu items, served in beautiful presentation. Located on up-and-coming Freret street, Origami offers a full selection of Japanese food. Their philosophy is simple: supply the freshest and best ingredients, pay attention to the details, and provide each guest with the finest contemporary Japanese food. With so many great restaurants to choose from... More

Our first visit to Origami featured excellent food, but a somber mood that permeated everything. This arrival the restaurant and mood were much brighter, and the sushi chefs warm and conversational. There is a very wide variety of very interesting options, and they are prepared with focus and enthusiasm. The Big Easy roll was very good, and the Gustar roll... More

It's a typical sushi joint in New Orleans so the food is pretty good. The service can be a bit bizarre and slow so I recommend take out. For the area I think they do a really good job and it's party of the Freret St food scene!!

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
