This diner type restaurant looks like a House until you walk in and experience a "50's type atmosphere with friendly waiters and cooks who will make you feel right at home. The food is delicious - if you like catfish their sandwiches are fresh and tasty. Don't expect nothing fancy, but do expect to eat some great food and hear... More

We went to Camellia Grille due to several recommendations by friends. Their website didn't mention gluten free options, but in my 12 years as a Celiac, I've never come across a diner I coudn't eat at. Until now. Everything in the restaurant is cooked on the same surface, and when I tried to explain to the server that I needed... More

We had not been to The Camellia Grill; however, it had been highly recommended. When the 4 of us entered, we looked for tables and found that all seating was at the counter. Mike directed us to 4 open seats and gave us a paper menu. When we ordered, Mike wrote directly on the menu and called out our order.... More

This is an Old New Orleans diner with locations uptown at the river bend and in the Quarter. The waitstaff are entertaining and the food is great. A visit to NOLA is not complete without a stop at this venerable old restaurant.

We decided on a whim to eat here. It was a very busy day, and we had to wait a long time. The service is amazing but the food is just okay.

Take a pretty and scenic tour on the trolley from Canal and stop off here for an inexpensive breakfast or lunch. My friend swears by the mushroom and cheese omelet. My husband enjoyed his egg, sausage link and (yummy) pancake breakfast and my grilled cheese was just OK. The butter they give you is from big pourable gallon containers which... More

The main features of this eatery is a most friendly staff, being open late, and a varied menu of American and local dishes. The set up of marble counters is reminiscent of the era of Woolworth's eating counters. Our order of a ruben and muffaleta sandwiches was prepared promptly and tasty. Portions are generous. The place could benefit from small... More

Stopped here on the way from the airport. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. Prices here are fair and the whole place is a throwback to the 50's. Thats about it. The food is.... well, diner food. Plain white bread on the sandwiches with deli meat that's just mediocre. The pancakes are bland and well the food... More

The food and atmosphere are memorable. This is a unique experience. Wish Bat was still here. His service was so crisp and friendly.

If a place with wonderful food but a whole lot of personality isn't your thing, avoid this place. A guy named peanut (if I recall correctly) is loud, friendly, and wrong with the orders 50% of the time. (It gets worked out and I also think it's part of the act.) I would suggest it, long wrap around bars and... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
