Ok, I admit it, I really splurged. We went to Camellia Grill for breakfast, and I had bacon and eggs. It was fantastic, the service was friendly and fast, the place looks right out of a 50's movie set. It's all counter seating, but there are plenty of seats. We noticed firefighters there eating, so it has to be good... More

Had heard good reviews about this place and weren't disappointed. The food was amazing. Only has bar seating, but this made the experience even better because we met some amazing people and the wait staff and cooks are able to interact with the customers and makes for a fun time. Mocha freezes are awesome as was the pecan pie ala... More

It is certainly worth the wait! Try the chocolate freeze with whatever you order. The young girl at the cash register could use an attitude adjustment and some southern hospitality, but the waiters make up for it with the experience!

What a wonderful place to eat breakfast on our way to the airport. You sit at the counter and watch them prepare your food: an old diner experience in a converted New Orleans house. The service is interactive. By that, I mean the wait staff are friendly and gregarious. I also understand that their hamburgers are outstanding, but we couldn't... More

This place is a must. We have been here every time we visit New Orleans for the experience of the atmosphere, the waiters and the food. It is a classic diner. You have to get in line and wait but it is worth it. You feel like you a re at home with family and neighbors having a good breakfast... More

We went in just for a quick snack and ordered the 6oz burgers. It's rare that all 4 people in my family enjoy the exact same thing. We each devoured and LOVED the burgers. But on top of all that my 11 year old son said, "Every restaurant should be like this!" The staff was funny and joked around with... More

Greasy spoon dining at its most elegant? It was very good breakfast fare; I probably would take the streetcar to the end of St. Charles and eat at the original location for the original ambience.

We had a great time in this classic New Orleans diner. Two locations (we liked the one on St. Charles at S. Carrollton in the Garden District slightly more) but both are great. Fantastic diner food - nice hamburgers, great "freezes", fun, bantering waiters make this a great one for the kids. We went their twice in the week we... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
