Showed up with a friend without reservations one night on a recent trip to New Orleans. They didn't have a table for us, but invited us to sit and eat at the bar ... and offered us complimentary cocktails, a very nice touch. We had small plates; my chop salad was fine and the stuffed blue crab extraordinary (rich and... More

I admit it, I am a food snob. I am not an easy grader as my students can attest. But they hit it out of the ball park tonight. First of all, we didn't have a reservation, and when they called they told us they were full for dinner. But then they offered to put us a a table by... More

August is one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. They go above and beyond to create beautiful and delicious vegetarian options, plural. If you're able to stay for their tasting menu, you'll love it. If you are assisted by Lucy, you'll REALLY love it! My husband, who loves the variety of land and surf courses they offer, always leaves... More

A vegetarian tasting menu is tough. You need to build up to a culinary crescendo, and August just didn't pump up the volume from course to course. A whimsical amuse bouche bursting with cauliflower flavor got the melody going. A lovely bowl of leek and turnip soup was dazzling. The brussel sprout and cauliflower salad with the fresh ricotta and... More

The most incredible and delicious and inventive meal I've ever had. The service was perfect - professional and friendly. Good recommendations and the food is nothing short of fantastic. I'll not soon forget this meal.

No wonder Restaurant August is always at the top of the list of New Orleans restaurants. The service was impeccable, the food was great, and the experience was wonderful. Sunday brunch was a treat. You need to go there.

My family was visiting NOLA and had carefully planned out a variety of dining experiences. I am disappointed to share that this experienced failed to match up to others reviews and ratings. We witnessed several service snafus from our table receiving others food delivery to errors in service. The food presentations as others have shared were beautiful, but on our... More

We had been to Restaurant August several years ago for lunch & enjoyed it. However, this restaurant @ night is a knock-out! Our dinner was superb! We could not get over how stunning the place was & how affable the entire staff was! The whole evening was divine!

I would drive to New Orleans from Florida just to eat at this place! The food is so amazing and the restaurant is very romantic! We always have a great food and good service when we come here. Its hard to put into words how good the food is here!

Description
The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
