I left New Orleans decades ago but new that I was home with the first bite of the Friday special, "Eggplant with Shrimp Soufflé". What I love about the food is the marriage of the seasonings which is the essence of the cultural flavor. Personally, I feel that the Bananas Foster bread pudding is better than the real Bananas Foster!... More

Excellent food and restaurant environment! We had jerk chicken with two sides ($9) and Bananas Foster bread pudding ($4). This has been the cheapest meal we have eaten while here in New Orleans and the best! The jerk had a bit of a kick but not over seasoned, like many places. We had mashed sweet potatoes (perfection), macaroni and cheese... More

This is a wonderful lunch spot. But what makes it even more enjoyable is the fact that it is also a teaching facility for at risk youth. And the kids are great. Nice selection of hot and cold dishes, traditional new Orleans fare, daily specials, and more. Management is excellent and the place has a friendly buzz. Good for singles... More

The food here is simple, affordable, and tasty. Staff excel at hospitality. Dessert ended up being almost too much, but it was fantastic.

I love the fact that New Orleans is embracing people who might need a leg up and can get their training and experience here. All those who are behind this project have done it right. The wait staff is outstanding and the food is very good. The setting is a great reclaimed space that may or may not have had... More

Cafe Reconcile is a restaurant that is home to brilliant project offering skills and training to "at-risk youth". On top of that, the food is fantastic and the service is very impressive. We went for lunch twice in two days. The Grilled Catfish was excellent, the Po' Boys were great, and the Banana Foster Pudding was superb, definitely worth getting... More

After visiting the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, I took a recommendation from the cashier at the museum and went to Cafe Reconcile. This cafe trains disadvantaged youth in food service. The physical restaurant is nothing special, and the surrounding neighborhood is run-down, but the eagerness of this young staff to please makes up for that. The menu items were... More

Like cheralinavdk93 I also came as an Off-Site Interest Center while in town for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod National Youth Gathering. This would be a challenging place to get to on your own for lunch, but it is a cause and a neighborhood that is very worthy of some effort on your part. Based on the sampling that I... More
