Took my wife to New Orleans for my birthday. She had never been there. We went to Desire twice because it was so good. The baked oysters blew away the well known expensive restaurants. The bartenders and service staff could not have been nicer or more pleasant. If you like oysters, shrimp and crawfish this is a must. The beer... More

We stayed at the Sonesta and decided to give this a try for happy hour and appetizers. The shrimp rémoulade on fried green tomatoes was better than the equivalent at Mr. B's bistro. The chargrilled oysters were to die for... all the oysters we saw were HUGE! We had two well drinks and enjoyed the first step in our progressive... More

Every visit to NO requires a visit to Desire for happy hour and dinner. The freshest ( & largest) oysters are $ 1.00 each during HH. While they have a great menu, I oped for a shrimp poor boy. It was LOADED with large shrimp, perfectly prepared. Substitute the gumbo or red beans and rice for the french frys.

Their crab cakes are wonderful, the salad is to die for and my husband said the shrimp and grits are the best he ever ate, ever!

The place was very pretty on the inside and the service was great. Charbroiled oysters are a must to try at this location, and the po-boys are amazing as well. Definitely stopping back by here while I'm still in town!!!!

Eight for afternoon lunch, one catfish meal was very good with very large portions. Several of us shared the fresh and the grilled oysters. Fresh were very good but the grilled were over the top amazing. Served grilled in butter, garlic and a bit of parmesan and absolutely addictive. Everyone raved about them. I though about them for the next... More

Huge oysters! Six per person would be plenty. Gumbo was delicious - very flavorful. Jeri our waitress was delightful - very friendly! Helped to make our dining experience a lot of fun.

Looking for a place for a nice casual breakfast in the heart of the French Quarter? Look no farther! Outstanding eggs Benedict and coffee. Be sure and ask to sit at one of Ruthie's tables; she is the gentle soul of Southern hospitality. Thank you Ruthie for making our breakfasts so enjoyable!! Royal Sonesta, Ruthie is a treasure!

After several days of seafood, I needed a burger. Had the firecracker oysters and boy were they spicy. They were good but not worth $13. The burger was cooked perfectly. Friend had chicken and waffles and it was very good. Very pleased.

Was walking around NOLA & was like it's time to eat & I am not sure where & luckily this little beauty was right on my path... I think it's part of the Royal Sonesta hotel but could just share the same real estate??? Either way it was a good place to have food & drinks & people watch... Not... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
