They are indeed. Good food too but try to hit happy hour to save a bit on the Hawaii typical prices.

This reincarnation of Don the Beachcomber (not an original, like the one in Huntington Beach, CA) is a great new tiki restaurant with bar in the Royal Kona Resort. It is one of the pluses to that resort and one of the reasons I gave the resort 4 points instead of 3. It was designed in true tiki style with... More

We enjoyed our Mai Tai and fish entrees and if you go around 6 pm you get a fabulous view of sunset. Call ahead to get a patio table. If you cannot, request to sit patio side from inside - the view is just as good.

I stayed at the Royal Kona Resort so I checked out Don the Beachcomber, a restaurant and bar located on the premises.  It has limited hours (no lunch) and dinner is served three nights a week.  The place offers a daily breakfast buffet, which is what I tried.  It's a typical breakfast buffet with eggs, bacon, pancakes, cereal, etc.  There... The Mai Tais are good... The Plantation Mai Tai is awesome and not nearly as sweat as the don's Mai Tai. The ribs and potato mac salad were just so-so. Coconut shrimp were good. The island breeze salad was wet good. Lacey was great. Always a friendly smile and service was very good. ... best sunset ever!

Have say that it was a pleasant surprise. Our waiter , Douglas, was great. We had the prime rib, potatoes, salad, and mushrooms. The meat was tender and not too fatty. The view and the sunset are great. The Mai Tai and Cosmo were well made as well. Would definitely go back.

We stayed at the Royal Kona Resort and Don's was on site. The restaurant area is open for an extensive breakfast buffet and for dinner. For lunch you can order from Don's Mai Tai Bar.
