J. Gilbert's is an "upscale casual" steakhouse serving prime-aged beef cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill. Guests enjoy various cuts of steak, fresh seafood (including award-winning crab cakes) & other house made favorites like the Maytag Blue potato chips & chocolate velvet cake. The cozy atmosphere includes fire side dining, rich wood, brick & soft lighting where you can enjoy dinner for two or host a large party. 7 of us were in Nebraska for a training course for our jobs. We wanted to have a steak dinner for our last night in town. We looked at several Omaha steak restaurants and settled on J. Gilberts due to reviews and price. We arrived and were promptly seated upstairs at a table for seven. Our waiter Patrick covered the menu. The menu is not extensive as they really do focus on steak. Not everybody wants steak so they do have other options but the focus is on steak. We started with the charcuterie plate and the calimari appetizers. The charcuterie included beet slices that were amazing. I did not have calimari but those that did really liked it. Their wine selection looked good but I opted for a Manhattan which was expertly crafted as was my co-worker's Old Fashioned. Expert level bartending. For my main course I had a 6 oz filet, rare with asparagus and baked potato. I reaaaaly like potatos. My steak was, I think, the best i have ever had. I topped my last favorite which i had in Kansas City. Perhaps it was the accompaniment of the excellent charcuterie and the loaded baked potato and expertly crafted Manhattan that affected my thinking but who cares. I shared an overly generous portion of carrot cake for dessert.
Why you should go: if the rest of the staff is like Patrick, our server, then you should go. If you like awesome steak - not Outback level steak but truly well aged and prepared steak, and if you like a simple menu of well crafted cocktails all delivered in an attractive dining room AND you don't want to spend $67 dollars for the same filet somewhere else in Omaha - then J. Gilberts is for you.

My SO and I dined at J Gilbert’s recently, and we were not disappointed! Great cocktails and wine list. The oysters rockafeller were tasty, flavorful, and served piping hot! The sourdough bread was a pleasant touch. The crab bisque was a little under seasoned, but the wedge salad with extra bleu cheese - awesome! My 18oz bone-in ribeye was cooked to medium rare, the sides (recommend the poblano potato au gratin - as addictive as I imagine crystal meth), my SO’s filet was cooked to medium well and still juicy, tender, and flavorful. I do recommend the ancho pepper butter. The desserts were fresh and fantastic! Really enjoyed the evening at J Gilbert’s.

The food was spectacular! Our steaks were perfectly prepared, and the portion sizes were filling. We really appreciated the efforts to provide social distancing and the precautions the staff took during these times. The willingness of our server to prepare a dessert and cocktail to take back to our rooms at the Marriott were the perfect finale to a wonderful meal!

Food in most hotel restaurants is sub-par, I've found. Not this place. The steaks were amazing and the staff strives to make a difference with everyone that comes in for dinner.
I use the following to gauge how good a steakhouse is: The number of people coming in from the outside entrance to grab dinner to go was pretty impressive. Not something I am used to seeing at other hotel dinning establishments.

Our first visit and we were very pleased with food and service! I had Maple bourbon salmon grilled well dad per my request. Others had steak grill to their satisfaction. The chosen sides were green beans with pecans, potatoes au grautin , creamed corn with bacon ! All were excellent! Dessert was chocolate cake and carrot cake! Carrot cake had praline fillet that was amazingly delicious! Our server was Chris and he was just right! He brought a case of knives to the table for the steak eaters to choose the knife of choice! Very pretty restaurant and part of the Marriott hotel!

We went here for our anniversary dinner and had a great experience. Patrick took very good care of us. The sourdough bread was a great start and I highly recommend the wedge salad. My rib eye was perfect and my wife's lobster tail was excellent.

I swear this is one of the best steaks you'll find. Ok it's Omaha they're supposed to be good. Well, this was obviously a top cut but when they say wood fired I can tell you there is a flavor enhancement that is not spice or season. This was flame kissed delicious.
Wherever you're from, you can probably buy the best steak there for the same or more money but it won't be this good.

Went with another couple. The food was among the best we've had in Omaha. I would rate it six or seven stars if I could. The salad was super and the steaks were so tender you could cut them with a fork. The salmon was delicious. Our waitress did an outstanding job. Will definitely return.

Tonight the best meal and service we have had the pleasure to enjoy. Corey was our waiter who treated us like royalty. Our meal started with wine. Corey was right on describing the impact on our palates. We chose the $55 and $65 package highlighted by perfectly cooked fillets, scallops, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. We started with the delicious chicken tortilla soup and scrumptious crab bisque soup. Warm sourdough bread preceded the meal. The soup and the wine were individually served in small wine carafes. A feature never seen before was the presentation of various kinds of steak knives. Finished our night with carrot cake and chocolate covered cheesecake with raspberry ice cream. A little loud and the salmon was a little dry, but otherwise a perfect meal with a perfect waiter. We will be back.

We were excited to come a highly rated steakhouse.
Unfortunately, that was not our experience. It felt like we were being hustled out.
The steak came so quickly, it was not correctly cooked. It was sent back twice. For medium. First rare, then medium rare.
And my husband got the filet and shrimp combo and the maple bourbon shrimp was cold. COLD!
And the filet was chewy and fatty.
So disappointing.
The bill came and it appeared they had taken off the shrimp, however it was included in the combo price AND they added an extra $14 just to take it off. BUT the combo price included the shrimp.
We saw the mistake or the attempt to deceive us that the shrimp had been taken off while sitting at the bar for an after dinner drink (away from noisy children).
Really???
So we brought this to the attention of the manager, so they took care of his bar drink.
No apology for the cold shrimp, under cooked steak or deception with the bill.
When we return to Omaha, we will NOT return.

We had a lovely meal here while visiting Omaha. The food was very good. We had a pre-fix menu that was way more food than we probably needed, we left stuffed!
The highlight of our dining experience though was our waiter, Armando V. He was attentive and made the dining experience very enjoyable. I asked for a Rum Old Fashioned. I really liked the Rum he chose & he brought the bottle over so that I could see what it was & take a picture for future reference. It was Bumbu by the way. Absolutely delicious!!

The whole meal exceeded expectations. I had the filet mignon with blue cheese butter. Loved the house salad. The creamy tangy dressing was wonderful. Hubby said his seafood bisque was great and we both agreed his strip steak was better than my filet. Over the top service by Armando made this meal a memorable one.

Food was average to below average. Presentation of the food was horrible. Looks like the plate was prepared in a buffet line and entree and sides thrown together. Appears the chef has no pride on how the food leaves the kitchen. We will never be back.

Fantastic service and steak! The server was incredibly helpful making excellent recommendations such as the option to have a 4 oz steak (which is the appropriate service size, not 12 oz!). The steaks are rubbed in coffee and brown sugar and perfectly cooked. Reasonably priced wine selection and even a few healthy side options. Highly recommend!

We eat here every time we visit Omaha. Ask for Chris - he is our favorite server. We ask for him every time. If you never had a steak wood-fired you need to give this a try. I have had the Tomahawk Ribeye and Porterhouse and they are one of the best I have ever had.
